12 Things Every Twin Has Been Asked

"Who's the evil twin?"

12 Things Every Twin Has Been Asked

Being a twin, you quickly realize people have an abundance of questions waiting for you to learn what it's like to have one. To you, it's nothing special because you don't know any different, but to others- the idea of having someone with you to share your journey of life since the beginning is fascinating. I'm sure every twin out there has questions they're asked on a regular basis, and here they are:

1. "Do you two look alike?"

Of course we look alike. We share the same parents, and some of us share the same DNA. The chances of us looking alike are way more common than not.

2. "Who's the evil twin?"

I'm never sure how to answer this. It's usually with an awkward forced laugh followed by "we take turns." But for the record, I gladly consider neither of us to be evil.

3. And speaking of comparisons - "Who's the smarter/prettier/etc. twin?"

You're basically asking me which one of us is better than the other. Even if I had an opinion on these questions (which I don't) I would not answer them.

4. "Do you two get along?"

Do you get along with any of your siblings 365 days a year? Probably not, and neither do we. But for the most part I'd like to think that we do!

5. "Have you ever switched places?"

I understand the curiosity behind this question because I feel like it's something every twin has tried at least once. My twin and I switched places for a half an hour in 4th grade once. And surprisingly we didn't get caught.

6. "Would you and your twin ever date a set of twins?"

Personally, I would not. To me that's a little bit too close for comfort. But I've seen stories of twins marrying twins and these stories are usually very cute.

7. "Can people tell you apart?"

Especially now that we're older, it's very easy to tell my twin sister and I apart. We now have different colored hair, and completely different senses of style.

8. "Can you read each-other's minds?"

I really am not sure why this is ever asked, considering it would probably be such a medical miracle that I would not be in school but instead amazing the world with my talent of mind reading. On that note, I wish we could! This would come in handy in many situations. However, after spending almost two decades by each-other's side everyday before we went off to college, we often know what the other person is thinking before they even say it.

9. "Are you two double trouble?"

This is probably my least favorite twin-related question I have ever received. People mean well when they say this but it's just an awkward and strange question to ask. For the record, we aren't.

10. "Have your parents ever mixed you two up?"

Absolutely not - and if they did I'm sure that I would never let them forget it.

11. "Do you want twins one day?"

I truly do not know how my mother and father were able to raise two babies at once seeing as it is hard enough to raise one baby at a time. If I were to have twins, it would definitely be an experience to say the least!

12. "Are you two close?"

If you asked my sister, I'm sure there are some days that she would willingly leave me on a deserted island because I annoy her so much. Despite this, I would consider my twin to be one of my best friends. Being a twin is a large part of the person I am today, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
