After being a receptionist for many different companies, I know just how interesting the job can truly be. While it is a common misconception that it is a boring job, there is never a dull day being a receptionist. We are the face of the company so we have to be peppy and smiling whether people come to our desk or call us on the phone. We know how to be a completely different person at work than we are at home while being receptionists. With that being said, here are a couple things all receptionists know far to well when it comes to doing our job.
1. We will hang up on you on purpose and tell you it was an accident if you deserve it.
2. If you're nice to us, we will make sure you get connected to the correct person. If you're mean to us, well expect to be put on hold forever or disconnected in general.
3. Hold is our favorite phone feature and sometimes we will just put you on hold if you're being rude or if we need a break.
4. We are only the people who answer the phone, so don't get mad when we tell you we have to transfer you to the correct department to answer your question.
5. Perfecting the peppy phone answering voice is an art form that we have mastered.
6. Most of the time, we are faking the peppy attitude when answering the phone.
7. We won't pick up the phone if you call 5 minutes before the office closes.
8. If we offer to take a message or get you connected to voicemail, please just leave a voicemail so we don't have to get additional info from you.
9. Since we usually sit in the front of the office, we see everything which makes us the go to source for office gossip.
10. We are told to lie to you sometimes as to whether or not someone is available to take your call in the office.
11. The headsets we wear does not interfere with our hearing abilities when other people are talking about us.
12. While our job may seem pointless to some, we truly are essential in helping the office work properly.
