Before I begin, I must start with a disclaimer: no one is perfect, no life is perfect and no one even has the ability to live a perfect life (because, did I mention, no one is perfect?). But we do have the ability to appear as if we have it together – for you know, the sake of our own self confidence. Here are 12 techniques of people that give off the perception of perfection and demonstrate to everyone else they have their lives together. I’ve tried most of them and I’m sure we could all learn a thing or two:
1. They use an agenda book.
“Friday at 3:00 p.m.? Sounds great, let me just check my schedule.”
2. Two words: color coordination.
Their calendar, their closet and the sticky notes on their office desk, it’s all organized and perfectly coordinated to match the occasion, event or due date. These are the people that all others fear: the well-organized.
3. They obey the “on-time is late” law.
They are most likely sitting in that 9:00 a.m. meeting at 8:50 a.m., pen and paper in hand ready to discuss.
4. They have mastered the easiest hair, makeup and fashion techniques that take minimal effort and minimal time.
Yet, they always look nice. Like, always.
5. They use coupons and rewards points.
What says “I have my life together” better than a coupon for $2.00 off a gallon of milk. How did they even find that?
6. They are capable of making decisions and may even have a plan of action.
You want to grab lunch? They most likely already have a time, date and location in mind.
7. They’ve packed a lunch or carry a reusable mug with coffee or tea.
Where did they find the time to do that? Please, enlighten me.
8. They understand their finances (and don’t complain about money).
They pay their credit cards in full every month and seldom look at the price of something before purchasing because they know they have the cash.
9. They wear a watch or use a Fitbit.
They’re probably not late for anything because they’re so well organized, but they’ll check the time anyways.
10. They are never in a bad mood, like, ever.
It may be 8:30 a.m. and they just sat in traffic for an hour, missed out on grabbing coffee before work and stained their new pants, but they have the biggest smile on their face in the office.
11. They never skip out on their commitments, but rather understand how to reschedule.
“I can’t make it tonight, but I am available tomorrow. Does that work for you?” Brilliant.
12. They are most likely morning people and wake up to their alarm (the first one).
Just kidding, no one actually does that.
