The 12 Stages of Getting Over a Guy

Boys can be some of the most confusing things on earth sometimes. One day they’re into you and the next minute, completely out of your control, they drop you like you don’t matter. Most of the time they probably don’t even realize what they’re doing, but it’s incredibly easy to over think every little thing you possibly could have done to make him ignore your existence. Getting over someone you emotionally invested yourself in can be a process and it can get a little overwhelming. You do what you gotta do to make yourself independent again and you do it with the help of friends and ice cream.

1. You pretend it doesn’t bother you.

Your life motto right now is, “I don't need a man” and you’re just doing you.

2. You cry.

You realize being ignored by someone you liked does bother you. It also doesn’t help that as you walk across campus and see all the happy couples, you get a friendly reminder that you’ll probably be alone forever.

3. You get angry.

You’re mad at yourself for getting involved with someone like him, and you’re mad at him for not realizing how bomb you are.

4.You tell all your friends and gain an army of mutual hatred.

You want to feel less lonely, so you tell all your friends and expect nothing less than a herd of girls who hate him just as much as you do right now.

5. You tell yourself you’ll workout to make him jealous.

"I'm gonna get a super hot bod, and he’ll see me and wish he’d never left."

6. You do #5 for about 2 days then you’re over it.

Yeah screw the hot bod, Netflix over the gym, right?

7. You dye your hair a dramatic color.

You want a big change and you need to do something dramatic to take your mind off of the male species.

8. You cry again.

Nothing's working and I’ll be alone forever, its fine.

9. You eat a lot of ice cream and cookies.

Which is something you probably do anyway but now you have an excuse.

10. You call your mom.

She's your homie and she’ll always tell you what you need to hear.

11. You realize you’re better than him.

Everything you’ve been doing is just a distraction, and you see now that you’re a lot better than any guy by your side. You smell like pine needles and you have a face like sunshine, okay?

12. You eat more ice cream and cookies.

You’re proud of yourself for being an independent woman, and now you have only yourself to impress so you eat everything in sight.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
