12 Signs You Should Have Been A Teenager In The '90s

Nostalgia is a remarkable concept — something that is felt so frequently can only be described as feeling “home” in a sense, making you yearn for a time in the past that you held dearly at one point. Or sometimes, nostalgia is yearning for a time that you just feel you belong in, whether you were alive to experience it or not. For me, I am absolutely a 19-year-old young woman living in the wrong era. I totally belong in the '90s; resembling Kurt Cobain almost to a T when I go out on Thursday nights is my signature look, and I am 100 percent not afraid to blare Pearl Jam through my speakers over anything on the radio today. Here are 12 signs that you should have been a teenager in the '90s:

1. You liked Doc Martens before they became a Tumblr trend.

Who was rocking those badass boots freshman year of high school? Me.

2. The "Full House" theme song makes you feel all the emotions.

Carly Rae Jepsen has nothing on Jesse Frederick.

3. Actually, any TV show from the '90s makes you feel all of the emotions.

Your life was actually over when Ross and Rachel broke up.

4. Speaking of Rachel Green, you absolutely envy her and wish that you had her life.

She makes Carrie Bradshaw look like a wannabe.

5. You’d give your left arm away to see Nirvana perform live.

And you’d absolutely know more than just “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

6. You actually shop at Goodwill in hopes of finding clothing from the '90s.

Because Mom jeans are practical, that’s why.

7. You appreciate the beauty of a CD.

Because downloading an album off of iTunes doesn’t give you the same satisfaction as the photos of your favorite band along with all of the lyrics to your favorite songs on the inside cover.

8. You strive for the middle part.

A hair trend that has withstood the test of time.

9. You wear a flannel any chance you get.

Even in the summer, because layering is the most useful thing you get out of a flannel, like, ever.

10. If you were to ever climb a mountain, it would be the Aggro Crag.

Mount Everest doesn’t even hold a candle to it.

11. You are well versed in the difference between West and East Coast rap.

And will always laugh at the ones who aren't.

12. You stay up purposely to watch '90s Nick.

Because it brings you right back to the good ol' days.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
