Trust me, I’ve been there and thought what you’re probably
thinking. Why journal? Why write down my thoughts, when no one will read them
except for myself? Well, I'll tell you why you should! Imagine a much older you with grandchildren who are curious about what you were like when you were their age. Imagine being able to pull out a journal filled with stories and memorabilia, and give them a little piece of what it was like growing up when you were their age. Having pictures of your life only brings back so many memories. There is a purpose so much more raw and special actually having written details about your experiences.
1. To remember the little things.
Because for whatever reason the sweet nothings, little surprises, or maybe the best scoop of ice cream you have ever tasted feel a lot more special when you stumble upon the old memories in your journal years down the road
2. To reflect.
Doing a run down of the day before you, or the day you just had can cause you to remember all the good in the day. Or if you didn't have the best day you can plan things you want to do differently in the morning
3. To see your growth as a person.
The neat thing about keeping a journal is seeing the way your life changes either according to how you planned/hoped it would or not.
4. There is no time or word limit or restriction.
Living in a never ending world of social media, we are used to the word/character count. However that is the beauty of writing your thoughts down on paper, as opposed to posting them. There is no limit .
5. For clarity and peace of mind.
Ever heard of a brain dump? Well its basically where you transfer all of your emotions whether happy, sad, scared, stressed excited etc. onto the pages of your journal. This believe it or not is a huge stress reliever and a great way to start or end your day
6. You're free to write without judgment of what others might think.
Unlike Twitter or Facebook, writing in your journal doesn't have an area for someone to share their opinions on what you have to say so go crazy and speak your mind!
7. To write about your dreams and future aspirations.
Because everything is more exciting when you put it on paper and plan it out exactly how you hope it to be. Whether its a future career, plans for vacation etc.
8. Future laughs or smiles.
Serves as a great pick me up to read about past times when you were truly happy, during times where you could use a good memory
9. Appreciation.
No matter the condition of your day it feels great to point out every blessing in your life.
10. Future guidance.
After you overcome obstacles is the best time to jot down some wisdom for your future struggling self.
11. To improve handwriting and vocabulary.
Because God knows there’s always room for improvement.
12. We are living through history
So why not write about it from your perspective!
