With Thanksgiving break approaching college students everywhere, we can come to the conclusion that this break is one of the best. From the home-cooked food to the rest and relaxation, we are more than delighted to sleep for long hours and eat food that is not from a dining hall. Here are 12 reasons why Thanksgiving is the best break of your school year.
1. Home-cooked foods. Thanksgiving is the pinnacle of the holidays because you know Grandma is going to call you and ask which foods you want for Thanksgiving dinner. Also because for a short amount of time you get food that is not from a dining hall, and no one makes better pumpkin pie than Grandma.
2. Seeing old family members. No matter how many times your aunt and uncle ask about what you are doing with your life, or how many times your cousin tells embarrassing stories about you, its good to see familiar faces and look back on Thanksgivings past.
3. Sleeping in your bed at home. Nothing is better than coming home and having your own room and a bed bigger than a twin.
4. Not worrying about homework. Its the last stretch of the semester and just enjoying the act of doing nothing is the greatest thing ever.
5. Sleeping all day because you can. No classes, alarms or things on your schedule. Let my bed and I have some alone time to catch up on my sleep from the last semester.
6. Did I mention home-cooked meals? Because food is important and you can find me eating lightly the day before so I can eat a lot of food on Thanksgiving day.
7. Thanksgiving Day football. For us that are in Charlotte and are Panthers fans, this day will be intense. #KeepPounding
8. Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Who doesn't love giant balloons of Olaf and watching musical artists perform on the most random floats ever?
9. Only a couple of weeks left in the semester. And I will spend those weeks studying my butt off for finals and preparing for Christmas.
10. Black Friday shopping. Snagging the latest trends and saving some money. Stay safe in the chaos of the shopping!
11. Christmas is the next holiday. After you have finished your plate of hearty food and your slice of pumpkin pie, time to wind down with conversation about Christmas plans and gift ideas for the family.
and lastly...
12. Realizing how blessed you are to have a crazy family. With all of the craziness of the holidays and all the times your family might annoy you, it might be hard to see how much your family loves you (and trust me, they do love you). Be grateful for your family no matter how crazy they are; it's worth it to have them around.
Thanksgiving is a time that we focus on the things we do have instead of the things we don't. We are thankful for a roof over our heads, people who love us, how we have air in our lungs and how we wake up everyday. Take time this holiday season to remember that we don't need one day to be thankful on. Be thankful for what you have every day, and let everyone know just how much you appreciate them. Happy Thanksgiving, and don't eat too much turkey.
