After a year of college no matter what year it is for you, the feeling of summer is indescribable. You cannot wait for all the things that summer awaits, and here is just some reasons why coming home is the best.
1. You get your own bathroom again.
Even if you were in the dorms, or in your apartment you most likely shared a bathroom. You had to deal with someone's stuff on top of yours and now you can spread everything everywhere without having to worry about your things going on your roommate's side or having to share three bathroom stalls with 20 other girls. Pure bliss.
2. Sleeping in is a given.
Now you can sleep in, and not have to worry about the three tests you have the next day(even if you are taking summer classes, you can do the work in the comfort of your own home which is a lot better). You can wake up at 11am, maybe watch some Netflix, and then take a nap. Sleeping is always on the agenda, and it is great.
3. Your kitchen.
Your cabinets no longer contain the basic essentials to live, but instead, you get a whole fridge of amazing food with cabinets filled with your favorite foods. It is like heaven on Earth.
4. Having your own room again.
Especially if you lived in the dorms, having your own room again is easily one of the most amazing feelings in the world. Even if you had your single room in your apartment, having your room back in your own house is easily one of the things to look forward to the most. You have your comfy bed back, that you are probably going to lay in for the majority of summer.
5. Having your mom with you all the time.
When you are away, your mom is a phone call away. And now she is down the hall, you do not realize how much you miss hanging out with your mom until you are both sitting on the couch together watching a tv show and relaxed as can be.
6. Your dogs.
When we are in school, and we are stressed to the max all we want is our fluffy and cute dogs to cuddle with and avoid all responsibilities. And now, your responsibilities have decreased and you can cuddle with your dog as much as you want to make up for the lost time when you were in school. Having your dogs back by your side for three whole months instantly puts a smile on your face.
7. Having your shower back.
Dorm showers are disgusting, and not having to wear shower shoes feels like walking on clouds. Also, you do not have to share limited shower stalls with tons of other girls who are all trying to use the one stall that actually had hot water.
8. Summer nights with your friends.
You know the drill when you and your friends hang out. Someone grabs the pizza, some type of dessert, and you all get together catching up on everyone's lives for hours. You always miss the people that you had to say bye to when you went to college, but you do not realize how much you missed them until you are all together laughing at who knows what for the whole night.
9. All day beach trips.
Load up the cooler, grab some sunscreen, and you are ready for a full day at the beach. When it finally gets hot, you and your group of friends will make these trips a regular thing. Day long beach trips are easily one of the best parts of summer, tanning all day, watching the sunset, and then driving home tan(most likely sunburnt) and happy.
10. Being able to go to all your favorite food places.
Every town has amazing food places that you only know about, and being able to come home and having it a 10-minute drive away instead of hours is great. Whether it is a coffee place, restaurant, doughnut shop, whatever it is, you have missed it so much.
11. You realize how amazing your friends at school are.
Despite how great it is being home, you cannot help but miss the people you spend every waking moment with during the school year. All the crazy stuff you guys do is very much missed when you are back home. But all that time apart makes for tons of happiness when you and all your friends get to see each other again once school starts.
12. Just being home.
Being home, after a school year that has drained you mentally and physically is what everyone needs. You are with your family again, and all of your best friends are a five- minute drive away and you get to relax. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want. Embrace being home as much as possible because there really is no place like home.
