Between Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island- New England makes up the best part of the United States. Just in case you're skeptical, here are a few reasons why:
1. Fall Foliage
Let's begin with the obvious. It is absolutely breathtaking here in the Fall. A picture is worth a 1,000 words, so just let this do the talking:
2. Campfires on the Regular
Sure, people have campfires everywhere. But do they have as them as frequently as we do? Campfires here are as common as Friday night football games at your local high school.
3. You can drive into three different states in a matter of hours
If I leave southern Maine by 3:30 I can be in Western Mass by quarter of seven. I've found that people who aren't from New England are often confused when you drive an hour and are suddenly in another state.
4. Boston
Boston is New England's big city, and it is fantastic. Between Quincy Market, and all the little odds and ends shops, Boston rules all. The only difficulty might be "pahking the cah."(translation: parking the car)
5. The Big E
For a few weeks a year, when the weather starts to cool off, we have a fair called "The Big E." All of the New England states come together and celebrate what makes them special. Every state has a building dedicated to them where they sell food and other things that are common to that state. (Not to be bias, but I've heard Maine has the best Lobstah Rolls.)
6. The Ocean Isn't A Five Hour Drive
Obviously this isn't the case for all states that aren't New England, but the states in the center of the USA are certainly missing out.
7. We have the best sports fans
This one might be just a tad bit bias, but who else sings "Sweet Caroline" during every baseball game?
8. All Four Seasons
Nobody experiences the four seasons like New England does. Our summers are not too hot and not too cold, and our winter are well... They're definitely real winters. I can't imagine life without the seasons.
9. Dunkin' is on every corner
Who needs Starbucks? New England runs on Dunkin! We don't need any fancy stuff, we just want some coffee!
10. Candlepin Bowling
Candlepin Bowling was the only type of bowling I had done until about two years ago. But if you live outside of New England? It's very likely that when a New Englander says candlepin bowling, you won't know what they're talking about.
11. We have the best maple syrup
Okay, this one is also a little bias. Have you ever tried Vermont or Maine maple syrup? We have festivals dedicated to this stuff!
12. We will always defend each other
No matter how much smack we may talk about our fellow states, we will always stick together when a non- New Englander is insulting one of our states. Sure, they drive like Massholes, but they're our Massholes! Don't like Moxie? Get outta Maine! We're loyal to our fellow New England states.
The last thing I have to say about New England? It's WICKED good!
