11 Reasons College Students Should Appreciate "The Grinch"

Am I eating because I'm bored?

11 Reasons College Students Should Appreciate "The Grinch"

Let us first establish that "Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is by far the best Christmas movie of all time. Before you even ask that ludicrous question, no I do not mean the cartoon version. I mean the mastery and hilarity that is Jim Carrey. I was initially going to write an entire article explaining this in detail. I decided a better approach would be to show how the Grinch is basically living the life of a college student. Enjoy.

1. When you get invited somewhere that sounds awful, and you attempt to come up with some type of valid excuse.

You might as well just be honest. Everyone knows that you don't "need" to do laundry on a Friday night. You're just laying in bed watching Netflix.

2. When you're scrolling through your tagged pictures on Facebook the next morning and wondering why. Just why.

Why did I ever think that taking selfies with my Uber driver would be a good idea? Why do I look like a gremlin? Why did my friend upload them? Untag.

3. When you realize that you aren't hungry at all, and you are just inhaling food to occupy time.

Most of the time, it's not even because you're bored. It's because you're drowning in work, and the only reasonable way to handle it is to eat every food item you own.

4. When you're going out and feeling real confident that night.

Good outfit, good hair, whatever it is -- it deserves some oohs and ahs in front of the mirror.

5. When your confidence is shut down just as quickly as it emerged.

A comment as innocent as, "Are you wearing that out tonight?," can completely destroy any shred of confidence you may have had before.

6. When you've been in the library for a straight week and haven't seen any other humans, and then someone asks if you're going out.

You temporarily forget how to interact in social settings, but it all comes rushing back...eventually.

6. When you start feeling buzzed at the pregame.

This often occurs when you've been sitting for about an hour, and you stand up to grab something only to realize...you're all toasty inside.

7. When you suddenly remember what you did the night before.

You're feeling pretty good about the night, and then you see a Snapchat of yourself that changes everything.

8. When you have so much to do that you schedule time to feel bad for yourself.

The natural response to having a lot to do is either napping or telling other people about how much you have to do.

9. When you volunteer once and feel like a saint.

"Wow, I am such a good person."

10. When your alarm goes off, and you want no part of it.

The moment you wake up, you are hit hard with either a throbbing headache or a sudden awareness of everything you have to do. Or if you're lucky, both!

11. When you find yourself actually liking someone.

There are so many ridiculous phases people go through in college. I cannot keep straight who has "a thing" with who; all I know is that, "I actually like him," and, "She's a cool girl," are pretty strong indicators of actual feelings. God forbid.

So basically, the Grinch is the best. Cut, print, check the gate, moving on.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
