One of my favorite sources of inspiration and encouragement comes from looking up quotes. I often write quotes on my bathroom mirror and post them on sticky notes around my room.

Here are 12 quotes I recently found useful in my life.

1.

Mistakes are crucial for personal growth. However, some mistakes are better learned from others. Use them as guidance in your own life.

2.

Holding on to the past is a pattern often difficult to break. Although we must acknowledge our history and how it has shaped us, holding on too tightly will prevent you from living in the present.

3.

The truth alwayscomes out. One of my favorite lines of lyrics from the rapper Drake, “Cause that truth hurts, and those lies heal” always resonated with me. Be truthful in everything you do and with everyone in your life. Be truthful to yourself by being who you are. Honor and respect those you love by being honest, no matter how hard the truth may be. And remember, intentionally omitting information can be as equally damaging.

4.

We are often unaware of how our actions are influencing the world. Our actions (both positive and negative) are like dropping a stone into a pond; the impact of the stone results in expanding ripples. Don’t underestimate your power to make a difference.

5.

Since elementary school, I recall teachers encouraging the students to ask questions in class, often stating someone else may have the same question but was too nervous to ask. The same goes in many aspects of life. Your voice matters, especially in times of silence.

6.

Take care of yourself. Always putting everyone else’s happiness before your own will eventually drain you.

7.

Life is what happens outside of your comfort zone.

8.

You are never going to please everyone. At the end of the day, you have to live with the result of your choices. Spending your entire life trying to please others will be a waste of your time and talent.

9.

Take the risk, it is worth it.

10.

Imagination is the foundation of change.

11.

Age is just a number. Keep dreaming.

12.

Free yourself. You have the key.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
