When living with the same person every day, you don't realize all your roommate does for you. But as the saying goes, you don't realize what you've got until it's gone, such as over break, when you and your roommate head home for a month. Soon you begin to realize that now, not only are you without a roommate, but you are also without so much more. Here are 11 roles your roommate fills besides just being your roommate.
1. Therapist
When you need to just vent about why everything isn’t going right, your roommate is there to listen.
2. Workout Buddy/Fitness Motivator
When your roommate is getting ready to go to the gym and you haven’t worked out yet, you’ll inevitably feel bad and drag yourself to the gym too.
3. Room Service
Oh, you’re at the dining hall? Could you grab me a sandwich? And cereal? Some milk too. And a brownie while you're at it. Thanks.
4. Tutor/Peer Editor
When it’s 2 a.m. and you’re finishing up your essay, your roommate is the one to point out that you’ve misspelled your own name.
5. Stylist
Not only does roommate equal extra closet (and if you’re lucky, that includes shoes), but your roommate will help you figure out what to wear, making sure that whatever wear out is a look you won't regret.
6. Reality Show
Some of the stories your roommate tells you sounds like they should have come off of "The Real World." That's quality entertainment.
7. Publicist
Your roommate has probably edited and/or captioned your most recent profile picture and Instagram photo.
8. Your No. 1 Fan
You can always count on your roommate to laugh at your bad jokes, go to your games or performances, and shoot you that 100th like on an Instagram post from two years ago.
9. Mom
Your roommate will act as a substitute mom, texting you multiple times when unaware of your whereabouts and bringing you chicken noodle soup when you’re sick.
10. Friend
You can go out to party or stay in and watch Netflix -- either way, you two will have a good time.
11. Sister
Your roommate is the person who has not only seen you at your worst, but can deal with it, too, and will still love you all the same.
Coming back from winter break may suck because of school, but you'll definitely be excited to reunite with your roommate and prepare for a whole new semester's worth of adventures.
