11 Ways High School Musical Is Relatable in College

High School Musical is an iconic movie from the childhood of current college students. Although the movie takes place during the characters' high school years, I have found that it is still relatable to people in college.

1. We are still excited for summer.

Summer means no school for most people. It is automatically a thousand times less stressful, even if you do have a summer job. There is definitely a slight more free time during the summer. Most college students try to find an internship or job pertaining to their major, so students are doing what they love instead of what they are forced to do during the school year.

2. We still have that school spirit.

It is still fun to attend sporting events and root for your school, just like you did in high school. College games might even be more fun because it is more intense and worth more.

3. Our futures are still unclear.

Almost all college students are still not sure what their future is going to be like. Like Troy Bolton says, "the future seemed different when we were younger." Now that we are here, it is nothing like we imagined.

4. When nobody really knows what is going on.

Professors can make something very confusing and hard to understand to the point where nobody knows what is going on. Even when someone asks a question and the professor did not explain it correctly. At least you're not the only one who is lost.

5. Plans can change in a blink of an eye.

Whether you are talking about your major or plans for later that night, they will most likely change. College throws many curveballs at you, and you just got to adjust. Your current major may not be for you, so it is best to change it. Your plans for tonight may fall throw when someone is "too tired" or "not up to it". But hey, college is very flexible.

6. The endless hours of schoolwork will get the best of you.

Homework, speeches, notes, and studying will build up and it will feel like you have been behind on homework since preschool. The stress of homework worsens because it is mostly all online, so you can see everything that is due all semester. I suggest making a list of things to do one week at a time.

7. Food is your best friend.

College students' number one stress reliever is eating. Sadly, that is what causes the freshman 15. Baking is also a fun thing to do in college, because homemade food is impossible to find while living on campus. So make "dormmade" food with your friends and have fun eating.

8. No one will remember your name.

It doesn't matter how many times you attend class, your professor and the people around you will most likely forget your name until halfway through the semester.

9. When the professor changes the slides way too fast

Then you have to actually speak up and ask the professor to go back one. That can be difficult if you hate speaking in front of a huge crowd, like me.

10. Finding an outfit for the day is still a struggle.

When you have to get up even earlier for your 8:30 class so you can find a good outfit to wear for the day. Don't forget about hair and makeup. It is a major struggle, especially if laundry day is coming up so you are out of most of your clean clothes.

11. Your friends are still so important.

Meeting all these new people in college is what makes college such a fun time. Keep them close because these people will probably turn into you life-long friends.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
