I love food. No, that’s an understatement.
Food plays such an integral role in my life, so I was shocked, more like heartbroken, when I realized that I had run out of meal points. What do you mean I have no more meal points and two more months of school?! What’s a hungry, broke college student to do? Well, I have some tips and tricks to help you score some free food!
1. Find a friend with a bunch of extra meal points!
If you don’t have a friend, befriend one. It’s an emergency. They will most likely offer you a couple of swipes out of pity. Score!
2. Find a friend with a small appetite.
I love eating with people who don’t love eating. I order a small drink and await their “I’m full” state, which is basically barely touching the food and that’s when I swoop in to finish most of the meal.
3. Mark all the school events with free food on Facebook.
There are so many events throughout campus that have free food. You can almost find an event for every day of the week. That’s basically dinner everyday. Make sure to show up 30 minutes before the event ends to get the food without the waiting.
4. Constantly complain about your hunger.
People will automatically be programmed to think you’re starving and just start handing you food, in part to make you shut up. But, hey, free food, right?
5. Strike up random conversations with strangers.
Those movie scenes where the person in front of you in a line pays for your food was basically my dream, and it actually happened in real life! So, start your yapping and free food may come your way.
6. Ask family and friends to mail you food.
If you go to school far away from home, your friends and family will definitely be willing to feed your famished soul. Ramen for days.
7. Beg on Yik Yak.
You’d be surprised how nice people are in California!
8. Freeload at a friend’s place.
Know any friends with an overload of food and groceries? Chill there until you’re full and do the dishes as payment.
9. Await the closing of cafes.
Usually cafes throw out baked goods at the end of the day, so stay until closing time and gather up your breakfast for tomorrow!
10. Download Pocket Points and Postmates apps!
Free cookies and some free deals on meals! Although these opportunities are rare, they are worth a shot.
11. Go on dates.
Yes, dates. Although the free part may not be guaranteed, we still live in a semi-socially traditional world. Sucks for guys, but desperate times call for desperate measures. The limit does not exist for free food.
Even with the lack of meal points, the freshman fifteen still managed to find its way back to me. Just wonderful.
