The movie "Mean Girls" is one of the greatest dipictions of high school life, expecially for girls. While the scenarios seem far fetched, situations like this often do occur in high school. Sometimes it's hard to see these things and acknowledge their truth when you're still in high school. This being said, after two years out of high school, I have come to realize these aspects of the movie are often true in real high schools.

1. There's a mom who was always a little too involved

She would do anything to be known as the "cool mom", not realizing high schoolers rarely find any mom to be"cool." Staying involved in the drama and informed of the gossip was her full time job.

2. The painfully awkward sex ed class

Everyone's "mature enough" to have sex... and yet they can't talk about in front of anyone else without turning 12 shades of red.

3. The endless nasty rumors that often hold no truth at all

The epitome of high school. Sometimes people don't see it until they're out, but social lives in high school are built on rumors and gossip.

4. The last month of school being dragged out a little too long

Being out of high school, we wonder how we ever stayed in school until the end of June without losing our minds. After 10.5 months with the same people, summer cannot come soon enough.

5. There is a definitive "cool crowd" in every grade

*Spoiler alert* that doesn't carry over into life after high school. There's been plenty of examples of the popular crowd dispersing after senior year and often they end up on the wrong path.

6. The "cute" halloween costumes

These often resembled lingerie more than costumes...

7. Knowing that where you sit at lunch is important

Because what table you're sitting at defines the kind of person you are and who you can be friends with. (Obviously an extremely realistic and reliable way of judging someone's character.)

8. Seeing a teacher outside of school is HORRIFYING

Teachers are supposed to go to school and go home. Seeing them outside of school AND having to talk to them is a high school student's worst nightmare.

9. Girls believing that pretending to be dumb is cute

Girls often believe a boy is more likely to like you if you make them feel more intelligent than you. (FALSE!)

10. Girls (and boys) not being able to see their true self-worth

High schoolers often accept the crappy ways people treat them because they don't feel like they deserve better. After high school it's much easier to see that nobody should make you feel worthless.

11. And the total fear of being different

God forbid we're not all exactly the same in high school. If you don't follow the trends of the popular crowd, all hell will break loose.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
