For many, the new year also symbolizes the start of a new semester. For myself, it means another semester of college. (As of this writing, Rose Bowl hasn't gone down yet so LET'S GO PENN STATE)
Like any part of life, the new can come with many thoughts and reactions.
Responsibility-dodging notwithstanding of course.
That being said, the thoughts that come to one's head is a bit broader. So why don't we take a look?
In no particular order, here are 11 thoughts you have after the first day of classes of the college semester.
1. "Will I never see my friend(s) again?"
(Hello, Darkness my old friend....)
It's college, so unless you and your friend(s) have similar, if not the exact same major or minor it's unlikely you'll see them both inside and outside of the classrooms. And even then, having different schedules and with college campuses usually being large (Penn State is, anyway) means there are few chances to see your friends. Plan ahead for the movie nights, video games and convention visits.
2. "What's in store for me this time?"
No matter how many times we've checked our class schedules, work times, internships etc., there's always a feeling of uncertainty. It doesn't matter if it's your first semester or you have the same job as last semester or whatnot. After getting the basic gist, you end up wondering what the future has in store.
3. "Oh man, he/she's cute"
It's college. Our eyes will travel to anything we seem noteworthy and someone attractive is the last thing we'd miss. So the first cute girl/guy that catches your eye will probably be with you for a while. Longer if she/he's in one of your classes.
4. "That doesn't sound good"
Maybe a professor, a fellow student or your BFF said something; a secret about another friend, a vague explanation about what's on the syllabus, etc.Regardless, it gives you a feeling that something bad will happen down the line. It's probably for the best that you prepare emotionally for what may come.
5. "I gotta run"
Surprisingly, this isn't just limited to being late to class; Something in your gut just tells you to run (bonus geek points if that voice sounds like Tom Cavanagh). To class, home, a friend or family, try running. It might give you that rush of energy you needed.P.S: Take it from me, start running in the morning. It makes for a great adrenaline rush and a good way to start the day.
6. "QKIZXJFAWRZSDFK!!"
7. "I need food."
(To any girlsreading this; is this true?)
We're college students. Being hungry is part of the job description. Day, night or 4 in the morning; we will always be hungry. Who said we're not after the first day?
9. "I need a drink"
The 21+ people know that for many of them, the solution is to have a few drinks. It can be Thirsty Thursday, or just the weekend. Either way, sometimes the only way you get through the semester is to have a few glasses of booze every weekend or such.P.S: Drink responsibly.
10. "Can someone give me a hug?"
Despite all this, maybe what you really need after everyhing is just a glomp; a hug from someone you can count on. That one gesture may be all the comfort you need to get a hold of yourself and back on track.11. "It's going to be a long semester..."
This part really needs no explanation; no matter if you get a positive or negative vibe on the first day, you'll find yourself saying this.
Time doesn't slow down regardless of how much we may want it to, and likewise, the semester comes like a train without brakes. No matter what, we will make it to May without much injury, despite what we may think.
