College is like nothing else. Your campus is basically like a little town designed just for students attending that college, and in that town is everything that you may possibly need. Friends, food, parties, anything imaginable is only a close walk away. Once we leave that little town, whether it be for graduation and going out into the real world, or for a break, we really begin to realize how much it means to us and how life without having everything at our fingertips is really scary.

1. Not being able to see your friends everyday, and whenever you want.

Gone are the days are walking across the hall to hang out with your friends.

2. Having an excuse to not get a job.

"Sorry, mom and dad, classes are just too time demanding for a job " no longer works as a valid excuse when school isn't in session.

3. Going out whenever you feel like it.

So what if it's a Monday? There's half off drinks at the bar.

4. Your freedom.

Back to asking the parents for their permission to do things.

5. The campus organizations that you're involved in.

Greek life, athletics, no matter what it is, it's a part of you and you'll miss it when you leave.

6. Your roommate.

Weirdly enough, it gets lonely not having someone sleeping 10 feet away from you.

7. Not having to pay for food.

Never knew how much I take my meal plan for granted.

8. Not being able to walk everywhere.

Since when has gas been this expensive?

9. Late-night fast food runs.

Getting hungry and grabbing your friends for a 2 a.m. McDonald's run may or may not be so easy now.

10. Constantly having something to do.

It's never a dull moment when you're at college, but when you're home, there are way too many dull moments to even count.

11. The general atmosphere.

College life is like no other, and it's something that you really do miss once you leave.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
