You're probably counting down the days until you get to move back to school, see all of your friends, and have your freedom back, but let's not forget about all of those things we love and will miss about being home.
1. Having a car
Nothing beats the freedom of having a full tank of gas, a car full of your friends, and nowhere important to be. Now it's back to using public transportation and walking or biking everywhere.
2. A fridge fully stocked with food your parents paid for
I don't know about you, but my mini-fridge was almost always empty with the exception of leftovers that were probably way past expiration. You can say goodbye to having easy access to everything and being able to bake cookies in the middle of the night or make a snack without having to plan ahead and pay for the ingredients yourself.
3. Being about to spend time with your pets
There's nothing like cuddling with your pet and forcing them to spend time with you. Now it's back to counting down the days until your school brings puppies on campus to help you de-stress for finals.
4. Privacy
It was so nice having a personal bathroom – or at least one that you didn't share with 20 other girls – and having your own space with some peace and quiet. Now it's back to noisy dorms and zero privacy.
5. Sleeping in and staying up late
Is there any feeling better than knowing you don't need to go to bed early or set an alarm because you don't need to be anywhere tomorrow? After a whole summer of sleeping in and staying up late, thinking about waking up at 8 a.m. for class makes me shed a single tear.
6. Having time to catch up on your favorite shows and movies on Netflix
Summer is your opportunity to binge-watch all of the shows and movies you've been meaning to watch. Now it's back to guiltily watching an episode of "Grey's Anatomy" in between study sessions.
7. Sleeping in your own bed
I probably missed sleeping in my own comfy queen-sized bed more than I missed my parents (just kidding)! A creaky, stiff, twin-sized mattress that countless others before me have slept on just doesn't cut it.
8. Reading books you want to read (a.k.a. not textbooks)
Hopefully you were able to get through some of your summer reading checklist, because now it's back to reading those dense and boring textbooks.
9. Not having to pay to do your own laundry
When it costs close to $4 to do a load of laundry in subpar dorm washers and dryers that shrink my clothes or don't even fully dry them, I feel like I might as well flush my money down the toilet. I don't even want to know how much money I spent doing my laundry last year.
10. Getting your parents to pay for things
Face-to-face interaction is key in convincing your parents to pay for things for you, whether it's food, new clothes, etc. It's much harder over the phone, so get ready to go back to paying for everything.
11. Wi-Fi that isn't crappy
It's true that you never know what you have until it's gone. Bye bye, high-speed Internet. Hello unreliable, slow, and generally crappy school wi-fi.
