Your dog becomes a part of your family and it’s incredibly difficult to have to leave them behind. I wish they could understand what I’m trying to tell them when I have to go back to school. It’s incredibly hard saying goodbye when you know that they don’t understand why you have to leave. Although I will see them soon, it just hurts knowing you won't be able to see them every day when you get home, or hang out with them when all of your friends are busy. Even if they don’t understand why I have to leave, I still try to explain a few things to them.
1. Trust me, if I could pack you up and take you with me, I would.
Maybe I can hide you in my dorm room and hopefully my RA will never find out.
2. Maybe I should just commute every day so we can still be together.
But I’m not sure it’s possible to travel that far every day.
3. Mom and Dad will take care of you while I’m gone.
I know they can’t give you the same love I give you, but they’re trying their best.
4. It’s only for a little while; I’ll be back over break.
It’s only two months apart, but that’s like forever in dog years.
5. You can sleep on my bed while I’m gone.
My bed is your bed.
6. Don’t tell Mom and Dad I’ve been giving you all of these treats.
Those puppy eyes are making me give in; here have another treat now.
7. It’s not going to be the same walking into my dorm and not having you there.
My roommates just don’t greet me like you do.
8. We can FaceTime every day.
Either Mom or Dad will help set it up so we can see each other.
9. Don’t worry I won’t socialize with any other dogs.
You’re my one and only. I won’t even go to the puppy store to see other dogs.
10. You’re my best friend and I love you.
You’ve always been there for me and I love you so much.
11. I am going to miss you more than anyone else in the family.
But, we can keep this between us.
