11 Things You Should Know Before Going Greek
Odyssey

Going Greek was one of the best decisions that I ever made, and you have the chance to have the same experience as me! There are so many great things about being Greek, but there are some things that you should know before getting into it all.

1. Rush week is not like what you see on T.V.

At least at my school, rush week is not nearly as crazy and dramatic as it is portrayed on T.V.

2. Your sorority sisters will become like one big family to you

After all, you do call each other "sisters" for a reason!

3. You won't always get along with your sisters

But you will always love each other through it all.

4. There are many secrets within the sorority

These are all exciting things that you will get to learn throughout your time in your sorority! Don't stress over it, embrace it! This is what makes each and every sorority unique!

5. You have to maintain a certain GPA to be involved

This GPA varies from sorority to sorority, but each one has some sort of requirement. They hold you to high standards because they want the best for their organization. Don't worry about this too much, but keep in mind that grades are important to sororities, too!

6. Sororities each have their own philanthropy that they support

A philanthropy is an organization that the money sororities raise go towards. This may be important to you, or it may not be. Either way, I think it is important to know what the money raised by a sorority goes towards. Philanthropic events are very stressed by sororities, it is not all about the social aspect of Greek life!

7. Greek life will bring you some of your best friends

Both within and outside of your own sorority. You will become friends with girls from other sororities and with guys from various fraternities. Greek life is a great way to meet new people!

8. You will be pushed outside of your comfort zone

Whether this be taking up a position you are not so sure about or just meeting new people, you will sometimes feel a little uncomfortable. The great thing is that you will always be able to find reassurance in your sisters!

9. It is time-consuming

There are many events that take place in one semester. You have mandatory events like your weekly meetings and your philanthropy events, but there are also events that are not mandatory. Some of these include socials with other sororities or fraternities or sisterhood events. As time-consuming as it is, it's all worth it! You get out of it what you put into it, so by sending your time doing these things you also get joy out of them!

10. It is expensive

You do have dues, but all of these dues go towards things that benefit you and/or your chapter. Each sorority's dues go towards different things, but in the end, it is all doable. Your sorority will help you find a way to afford it all!

11. Greek life isn't for everyone

So don't be ashamed if at the end of rush week you decide that it isn't for you! I highly suggest going through recruitment, even if you aren't 100% sure on how you feel about Greek life. You will get to see what each sorority is all about, and if you decide that you would like to do something else instead, go for it! At least you gave it a try!

Even if you think that being part of a sorority isn't really your thing, you should give it a chance anyways! If fall rush isn't your thing, try joining in the spring! It is a lot more laid back and less intimidating! Good luck, and enjoy it all!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
