As a woman living in the 21st century, there are some things that I'm getting tired of hearing. Even though we've come a long way from where we once were, work definitely still needs to be done.
1. "You would look better if you smiled!"
And you would be way less annoying if you weren't telling me what to do, but we can't have it all.
2. "What do you mean women don't have equality? Women are completely equal to men!"
Are we on the same planet? Because last time I checked, we still have a long way to go.
3. "You're so strong for a girl!"
No, I'm just strong.
4. "You're being so bossy."
So having leadership skills and taking on positions of authority are considered "bossy" now?
5. "Oh, it must be that time of month."
Thank you so much for taking our legitimate feelings and trying to completely invalidate them by attributing them to our "time of month."
6. Catcalling. All of it.
No, you telling me that I have nice legs when I'm walking down the street or whistling at me from the passenger's side of your best friend's ride are not compliments. It's like nobody listened to TLC. *cue "No Scrubs"*
7. *wears shirt with any musical artist on it* "There's no way you listen to them. I bet you couldn't name five songs."
Oh, so you know what kind of music I like just by looking at me?
8. "How can you eat all of that food?"
Don't you have anything better to do with your time than talk about what I'm eating?
9. *says something sexist* "Ugh, it was just a harmless joke. You don't need to go all feminist on me."
And you don't need to be an asshole. Also, just a suggestion: jokes are usually funny.
10. "Why are you being so emotional?"
I don't know... maybe because human beings have these things called emotions?
11. "Feminism really isn't necessary anymore."
I truly and sincerely mean this from the bottom of my heart: educate yourself.
