Summer can be one of the greatest times of the year but also one of the worst. For us students, we have been waiting all year to be free from our school work. But, when summer gets here, we sometimes have no idea what to do and end up sitting in our house bored. So, to keep you from sleeping in all day, here is a list of 11 things you can do over the summer!

1. Go to the beach

The beach is always a great place to go for the summer. A great activity to do at the beach is collect shells! It would serve as a great memory of the times spent with your family and friends.

2. Have a BBQ

A BBQ is a great way to get everyone together. Pigging out on hotdogs and hamburgers is a must for the summer! And, to all my Marylanders, who could miss out on the beautiful blue crabs? Yum! An activity to end the night is a bonfire. How can anyone turn down s’mores?

3. Go to the museum

The museum is a good way to expand your mind. Depending on the museum, you can learn so much about art, history, and more. I love visiting the Smithsonian Museums in DC. I have been so many times, it never gets old. Plus, they are free!

4. Do volunteer work

Volunteering is a great way to build up your resume and keep you busy over the summer. It also makes you feel good about yourself for helping to make your community a better place. You could also do volunteer work in a different country if you are feeling a bit adventurous!

5. Go camping

Remember how I mentioned bonfires at BBQs? Well, you can do it on a greater scale while you are out camping! This is also a great way to escape from your electronics (but of course there is always time to snap a few photos) and get in touch with nature. There are so many fun activities to do while camping as well.

6. Go hiking

Are you a person who always wants to workout but has no motivation to? Well, hiking will be your best friend over the summer. You don’t even realize you are working out because you are just walking. You can also make this work out more fun by inviting your friends along with you.

7. Learn a new cooking recipe

Learning new recipes is exciting and helps you to learn new things. You can try this with your friends so, if the food tastes bad, you’re not the only one to blame! In the event that the food turns out really well, then you have a new dish to add to your dinner list!

8. Learn a new language

There are really great benefits to learning a new language such as increasing your memory and making you more desirable in the workforce. Not only that, you can communicate to so many new people! You can also travel abroad to practice your new language.

9. Go to an amusement park

Amusement parks are always one of the summer go-to activities. There is also a lot of good deals that amusement parks give out over the summer. And, when it is scorching hot outside, the water park is where it is at!

10. Go to a concert

There are a lot of concerts and music festivals all summer long. It is great way to get out and enjoy the sun and spend time with your friends! You might even find a new favorite band!

11. Check Facebook

If any of these don’t fancy you, then you can always check Facebook for events around town. If you are on your Facebook app, click on the “More” tab then click on the “Events” tab. From there, you can see all upcoming events and even search for ones by categories.

Summer is a great time to get out and try new things! Got a great summer idea? Post it here to share with others! Let us know what you do when schools out!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
