11 Things To Do In Philly Before The End Of October

Fall is well upon us here in Philly! If you have yet to attend one of the many events/festivals the city has to offer, it’s certainly not too late! From haunted attractions to the best places to view fall’s changing leaves, there is something for all. Here’s your go-to list Phellow Philadelphians:

1. Terror Behind the Walls

Consistently one of America’s top fright-inducing attractions, Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary is going on now through November 5th. If you’re looking for a thrill (or an excuse to cling to your romantic interest), this is the move.

2. Bloktoberfest: October 15th

From noon to 8:00 p.m., South Street fills it’s blocks with live music, great brews, and tons of food. What more could one want?

3. True Tales From The Tombs: Mischief Night By Firelight at Laurel Hill Cemetery: October 28th

A cemetery aged nearly 180 years - as if this weren’t creepy enough. Laurel Hill Cemetery will be “bringing residents back from the dead” to tell their chilling stories. At night. BYOF (bring your own flashlight)!

4. Philly Cheesesteak and Food Festival: October 15th

That’s right! A festival dedicated to our ever-so-precious cheesesteak. Not to mention, the event will feature Philly co-stars such as hoagies, pork sandwiches, pretzels, and wooder ice. Sound like heaven on earth yet?

5. Head of the Schuylkill Regatta: October 29-30th

If you haven’t been to a Regatta on the Skook then you are missing out. Not only is the rowing cool to watch, but you cannot beat a day spent along Kelly Drive. Plus, being one of the largest rowing competitions on the globe, this event attracts 7,000+ athletes and more than 25,000 spectators.

6. Oktoberfest At Dilworth Park: October 12-16th

A quick subway ride will pop you out right in the middle of this fall frenzy! Entertainment is lined up for all five days and as can be expected, beer and food will be readily available.

7. Harry Potter Festival: October 21-22nd

For those of you who would go totally wack over this… follow this magical link.

8. Visit one of these places for the best views of Philadelphia’s Fall Foliage

There’s something wonderful about seeing the leaves paint the city hues of orange, red, and yellow! And if you’re up for the day trip, there are PLENTY of nature-filled places only a short drive away.

Fairmount Park

Franklin Square

University City

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
