If you're home in Morrow County all summer you may be looking for some fun, local and inexpensive things to do. I know, I know. You're probably thinking there's absolutely nothing to do in Morrow County and you're doomed to be bored. However, here are 12 fun things to do this summer that are all within Morrow County.

1. Attend the Morrow County Fair.

Okay, this is probably the most obvious one and you're probably going to be attending anyway. But if you weren't planning or thinking about it, you should be. The Morrow County Fair will be held August 28 through September 4 and is a perfect way to end your summer right.

2. Visit the Mt. Gilead State Park.

The Mt. Gilead State Park is a fun getaway but will keep you local this summer. The park offers programs, events and an upcoming festival on August 5 and 6, according to their Facebook page. You can also camp at the park for a getaway while remaining close to home.

3. Go camping at the Cardinal Center Campground.

The Cardinal Center Campground offers swimming, fishing and the shooting center. Take a mini vacay and camp close to home.

4. Go to Splatter Park in Mt. Gilead.

Visit Splatter Park for some paintball fun with your friends this summer.5. Visit the Morrow County Historical Society.

5. Visit Morrow County's Historical Society

Go learn about Morrow County's history at the Morrow County Historical Society. You can also beat the heat inside their air conditioning.

6. Try all the small town food.

The best part of Morrow County and all the small towns are the amazing small town food it has to offer. This summer, get out and try local food such as Pizza To Go, SUZ-E-Q's, Corner Cones,Purple Indian,Highland Pizza,8 Sisters Bakery and much more.

7. Attend the Morrow County Sweet Corn Festival.

The Morrow County Sweet Corn Festival will be held on July 17 and July 18. Events such as a car show, Sweet Corn queen, princess and junior princess contest, entertainment and food will take place.

8. Go on a hot air balloon ride.

Okay, I didn't even know this existed, but this is awesome. Mid-Ohio Balloon Adventures in Mt. Gilead offers hot air balloon rides.

9. Participate in Morrow County's Relay for Life.

Morrow County's Relay For Life will take place on July 28 at Gilead Friends Church. Take part in a great cause right inside your community.

10. Cool off in the pool.

Several public pools can be found around Morrow County for when you need to cool off in the heat. Mt. Gilead pool and the Cardington Public Pool are just a few for you to check out.

11. Catch a movie at Capitol Theater.

You don't have to travel far to catch a movie this summer. Support the local Mt. Gilead theater, Capitol Theater, and catch the latest flicks this summer.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
