Coming home for winter break is something that almost all college students can relate to. The time between early to mid-December and early to mid-January is a time that is cherished and certainly wished for all year long. Here are 11 things that happen when you're home for winter break.
1. You dodge people you went to high school with at the grocery store.
Coming home for break and realizing that you're back in your hometown where everyone knows you can be a pretty daunting feeling. You can't deal with 30 minutes of small talk with someone who you haven't seen in years.
2. But on the other hand, you beg your high school friends to hang out so you don't die of boredom.
3. You eat until you can't anymore.
You're home. You get to eat home cooking. In addition to all of the holiday meals, you might as well give up on your diet until January. What are New Years Resolutions for, right?
4. When you can't find anyone else to hang out with, Netflix is your best friend.
Netflix has been there for me when others haven't. It supports enables me. I love you, Netflix.
5. What are responsibilities?
You have enough responsibilities during the semester. During break you forget about all of them. This is a vacation.
6. You really miss your college friends.
Winter break is a nostalgic and bittersweet mix of wanting to sleep and eat all day and counting down the time until you go back to school and get to be reunited with all of your friends again.
7. You rekindle your love for your dog.
You forgot how much you missed your dog while you were away at school and the thought of leaving them again makes you both incredibly sad and also terrifies you.
8. You can't wait for Christmas.
Winter break means Christmas is right around the corner. The decorations, the time with family, the treats, the joy, and everything else means it really is the most wonderful time of the year!
9. Once the holidays are over you go into a deep depression.
Christmas is over (sadly), and New Years is also over. This means winter break is now halfway over. What do you have to look forward to now? Nothing. December 26 and January 2 are the worst days ever.
10. You spend a significant amount of time answering questions from family about your relationship status, future career plans, when you're graduating, etc.
11. You never want to leave your house ever again but you also can't wait to get back to college.
College is tough and you really just want to stay home forever and never leave your bed, but you also can't wait to go back. You miss your friends, being on a somewhat normal schedule, and feeling like you had your life together. Here's to another semester, folks.
