11 Things To Thank Coffee For

Reasons why we should all be grateful for this amazing drink.

11 Things To Thank Coffee For
Giphy

If we have anything to thank the mayans for, its the introduction of our favorite addiction, coffee. Since the beginning of civilization coffee has taken over the likes of nobles, peasants, and college students. This is my list of affirmations to my savior and love of my life. From college to work to Europe to my house, coffee has taken over the world. This is my show of appreication.

1. Being the first thing I see in the morning

If you're like me, my first instinct when getting up in the morning is finding the closest cup of coffee. It is part of my morning ritual and anyone who comes between me and a cup of coffee will not be happy. Coffee, however you like it, is the introduction to my day everyday and it always welcomes me to my day with its unique and invigorating taste.

2. Getting me through endless work/school days.

As silly as it seems, I owe most of my successes (however small they are) to this precious drink. If it wasn't for coffee, my days would be endless moments of jolting myself awake and being grumpy. Coffee gets me through nine-hour library days and the long shifts at work that just seem to drag on!

3. Bringing people together.

One of my favorite moments during sorority recruitment was when I spent a decent amount of time talking about my love for this drink. Since then, Dunkin runs and surprise coffee deliveries have become part of my culture and lifestyle. Stopping at coffee places on the way to class or driving the half hour to the best coffee shop on the Jersey Shore, the Inkwell, has brought so many adventures.

4. Keeping me warm day and night.

Coffee is the ultimate significant other. It spends the day with you, rarely gets on your nerves, and keeps you warm--enveloping you in its warm cuddles.

5. Being flexible.

Thank you, coffee, for adjusting to my needs. Whether it's iced coffee in the middle of winter or a shot of espresso before class, coffee is a chameleon and has transformed to meet my needs, however demanding they are.

6. Being my car ride buddy.

Those long commutes around town, doing errands for my mom, or being the taxi driver for my sister can get pretty lonely. Coffee has kept me company and has listened to me attempt to belt out ballads and attempt to find my inner rap God (emphasis on the word attempt).

7. Being by my side as I reflected on my life.

Thank you coffee for being there as I cried to Taylor Swift and as I wrote my very messy feelings down on paper. Coffee has seen me cry, smile, and experience my wave of young adult emotions-- never complaining! Thank you, coffee, for being my biggest confidant.

8. Introducing me to new people!

Thank you coffee for introducing me to various baristas and coffee shop cuties! No seriously, I met some really rad people at coffee shops. Coffee is like the ultimate tinder for friendships (or whatever else people use it for).

9. Introducing me to new things!

Thanks to coffee, I can drink a shot of espresso no problem, which is something I would never have tried in the past. Coffee has allowed me to expand my personal palate and drink repertoire. Now I am ballsy enough to take on any coffee product you can think of. Bring it.

10. Being a universal way of communicating.

Anywhere you go in the world, coffee is a staple! Even if you don't speak the language, most people will understand the word coffee. Anywhere you go, people will have it in their hands and in their hearts. Its history, as a drink of the nobles and peasants, has proved that it just is truly wonderful! It's been around since the 10th century.

11. Being one of the most consistent things in my life.

Coffee, thank you for being there and available every morning, night, and in between. Thank you for not leaving me hanging and always being there. You truly are the best.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
