We all hear about our parents' glory days, a.k.a. their college years. They often remind us of songs, dances, traditions, and various other memories about their college experience. So what will Spelhouse (Spelman and Morehouse) students tell their children about their experience? An AUC college experience is one like no other. Here are a few things we will reminisce to our children one day:
1. Olive Branch
2. Swag Surfing
This is an iconic dance that any AUC student can say they have been apart of. In the beginning, we all raced to link arms with a stranger. After a while, it gets repetitive and many of us roll our eyes when we hear the beat drop. Nevertheless, we will definitely tell our kids about this.3. The White Dress Ceremony
This tradition is unique to Spelman College. First year students clad in true white dresses, hosiery, and black closed toed shoes are inducted into the institution. Spelmanites spend all summer looking for the perfect white dress before entering the gates, and will surely remember this special ceremony forever4. Their Spelman Sister/Morehouse brother
In a special ceremony, Spelman and Morehouse students are matched in a brother-sister exchange. If you were lucky enough to be blessed with a good, supportive Spelman sister/Morehouse brother, then you will definitely tell your children about them.5. Homecoming
There is no other experience like an HBCU homecoming. We'll one day tell our children of the lit concerts and the iconic tailgates where thousands of alums and current students mingle to celebrate their beloved HBCU.6. Fried Chicken Wednesday

7. No Air Conditioning in the Dorms
This a problem that only Spelman has, but one day Spelman alums will tell their children about how hot Atlanta is in August.8. Rivalries between dorms
The rivalries between dorms is unmatched. Dorms at Morehouse and Spelman College face off in stroll and step competitions throughout the year. No matter how old you, you will always remember your freshman dorm. I know I will always rep di lambda chi until I die.9. Hump Wednesday and Market Friday
10. Convocation/Crown Forum
11. Participating in Black Lives Matter Protests
HBCU students at this age live in a time of police brutality and racial polarization. While we might not face racism inside of our institution, we feel for those who do in their everyday lives.12. The Joys of Attending an HBCU
While there are many struggles of attending an HBCU, the rewards are unmatched. We are able to be immersed solely in our culture, learn about our history, and mingle with successful black leaders, doctors, teachers, engineers, lawyers, and business owners.I love and always will love my HBCU, Spelman College. I cannot wait to tell my future children about my experience at an HBCU and hope and pray they will have the oppurtunity to attend one as well.
