11 Things No One Told Me About College

1.Housing Lottery= HUNGER GAMES

As a sophomore in college, I have actually been lucky enough to not have to deal with housing lottery. My college has special interest housing options where you can apply to live on different floors in different dorm halls. I pray that I never have to deal with housing lottery because from what I've seen, it's insane!

2.Registering for Classes= HUNGER GAMES

When registering for classes, you get this inner adrenaline feeling inside of you that makes you pounce like a tiger when pushing "register" for that certain class...

As Effie Trinket once said, "May the odds be ever in your favor".

3.Don’t sign up for 8am classes, you’ll suffer and regret that decision

My spring semester of my freshman year, I signed up for an 8am yoga class. I was already tired to begin with, and yoga just made me even more relaxed. This current semester, I am taking a science class at 8am, simply because that was the only science class that worked with my schedule. Because my major is super hectic, 8am is sometimes a slot where I have to take a class. It stinks, and I regret it sometimes, but guess what...69 more days.

4.Boys in college are just as immature as boys in high school…

Boys will just never grow up I guess..

5.Getting an email from the mailroom saying you have a package is like opening a gift on Christmas morning.

6.Maintaining friendships from high school take effort from both parties.

I experienced this heavily throughout my freshman, and the beginning of my sophomore year in college. I still have one close friend from high school, and her and I still talk frequently, and our bond remains strong. So to all of the high school seniors, keep your friendships close. Adjusting to college is going to be a tough process at first, but still try to remain in contact with some of your high school friends.

7.On move in day, you will bring 20 pairs of shoes, and end up wearing the same two pairs for nine months.

8.Packing will always, and forever be a struggle

9.Don’t study with friends who aren’t motivated….it results in doing different buzzfeed quizzes and comparing your results.

Make sure you find a friend who is as motivated as you to get good grades! Study sessions/groups are a great way to study!

10.You should exercise to avoid the freshman fifteen!

Go to your gym on campus! The gym may be small and smell a bit, but you have a free gym membership at the college, so why not take advantage of it instead of paying 10 or 20 dollars a month!

11.Not everyone parties and/or drink alcohol, and it is totally okay if you don’t! :)

I would much rather have a relaxing night, and hang out with my friends!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
