11 Things My Little Sister Should Always Understand
Maria Cammarata

Dear little sister,

These are 11 things you should always understand, no matter what:

1. I will always pull seniority.

Despite the fact that you have grown to be the same height as me, and in a short year will probably be noticeably taller, I am still older. I will always be older, and therefore will always pull rank when we disagree on something.

2. I will always remind you of what a brat you are just as often as I hug you.

Face it, you are a brat, and probably a little spoiled because you have the younger child syndrome. As your older sister it is my job to remind you of this. Just as it is my job to make sure you know you are loved, despite being a brat. I also happen to know that hugging annoys you, and that makes it all the more fun for me.

3. I ended up being your chauffeur, but sometimes I enjoy it.

You are funny, talkative and insightful. Even though your taste in music has a long way to go, I'm glad there are songs we can sing to off-key together.

4. No, you are not getting my room anytime soon.

I'm not moving out anytime soon. There is no way I am uprooting everything that I have placed just so to create my happy place. You can't have it and that is that.

5. I will know when you've worn my shoes.

Just stay away from my collection of boots and new pair of Converse. We will be just fine.

6. You can always come to me if you have a problem.

I will never replace Mom when it comes to having growing-up talks of any kind. She knows best, but if you want to talk to me about anything, I will never push you away. I will offer the best advice I can over ice cream, and then go tell you to talk to Mom.

7. Our mom is awesome.

I know you think she's embarrassing now, but trust me, she's kick-ass.

8. You have my permission to poke fun at my romantic relationships.

After all, what are siblings for? Just know you'll get it back by every ounce when you enter your romantic relationship. And remember that I'm older and thus have a clear memory of your embarrassing baby stories, and even more embarrassing middle school ones.

9. You will regret choices you make in life, and I will be there to offer my support in anyway I can.

I will also be the first to laugh at you when it's over.

10. No one is allowed to pick on you except for me.

If someone hurts you, I will end them. I'm the only one that's allowed to squeeze you, sit on you, mess up your hair and mock you. If anybody else does so, they are subject to my wrath.

11. I love you.

We will have our fights and disagreements and I will probably call you a brat every time I see you, but I also love you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
