My grandma is one of the best people in my life. She has taught me so many wonder life lessons and I wanted to share them with you as a way to show her how much I appreciate her.
1. Be Generous
My grandma gives everything. Every moment of free time, every ounce of love and every part of her soul she gives to her kids and grandkids. My grandma taught me to give to people. Whether they need my time or attention, or maybe money or something like that… It’s always better to be generous.
2. Have A Positive Attitude
She also taught me to try and be more positive. You get out what you put into things. If you go into a situation with a bad attitude, it’s probably not going to turn out well. This is something I think everyone, including myself, could work on more.
3. Be Helpful
My grandma is one of the most helpful people I know. Whether she is watching the grandkids so the other adults can get stuff done, or she is helping with housework, she is always helping others.
4. Work Hard
My grandma works so hard. This is something she passed on to both of her kids and my mom passed on to me. She works all the time to make sure everyone is taken care of. I hope I can work hard and take care of her one day.
5. Pray
Although my family isn’t particularly religious, my grandma cares a lot about faith (there is a difference between religion and faith by the way). I’ve learned from her that you don’t have to go to church every Sunday to be a good person and to have a good relationship with God.
6. Be Strong
She has also had to deal with a lot of really difficult stuff. Between drama, work and different health problems, my grandma has to overcome a lot every day. Despite these challenges, she always manages to put a smile on her grandkid’s face. I hope that I’ll be able to grow and show more strength when people need me.
7. Family First
I think one of the greatest lessons my grandma has taught me is to always put family first. Friends will always come and go, but family is forever. At the end of the day, if you don’t have family, you don’t have anything.
8. Find Value In The Little Things
Happiness doesn’t come from expensive things. It comes from little, daily experiences. Whether it's trying on ridiculous hats at the antique store or planting flower pots, I have so many little things with my grandma. We should all try to establish some little things in our relationships that make your relationship with that person unique to just the two of you.
9. Don't Be Too Critical
I struggle with being very critical, of myself and of others. One thing my grandma has always pointed out to me is that everyone makes mistakes. No one is perfect. You never know what is going on in someone else’s life, so you shouldn’t judge or put to much pressure on people.
10. Find A Good Friend And Hold On To Them
My grandma and her best friend, Sharon, are so hilarious together. They have taught me the value of having really good friend. They always go on trips together and have fun, but they also are always there for each other whenever something goes wrong. In this way, they have taught me how to be a friend to others and the importance of allowing yourself to let someone be there for you.
11. Have Fun
Finally, my grandma taught me to have fun. Between all of our vacations, our weekend trips, antiquing or even family dinners, my grandma always manages to make me laugh. Laughter is the best medicine, thanks for that lesson Grandma!
