10 Things I Learned At My Restaurant Job That Helped Me For The Rest Of My Life

There are so many lessons to be learned.

The restaurant business is one of the toughest businesses to be in. Here are 11 things I learned while working in it!

1. The customer is always right...even when they're not

No matter what the customer is always right. You want to treat them with respect because you still want everyones business after this little problem.

2. Always smile

You want to look like you enjoy your job... it makes people come back!

3. Have a good attitude

Having a good attitude helps in two ways: 1) your customers will be pleased 2) your coworkers will reflect off of your attitude

4. Don't sweat the small stuff

The small stuff

5. Money is valuable

The restaurant business teaches you all about the value of a dollar. What you can save and what you can spend and such.

6. The proper value of something

By working in the restaurant business you find out how much many things are worth. For example, food, technology, and etc.

7. Do things to make yourself look good

Clean your area, help others out, be professional.

8. Treat yourself

Everyone knows a job in retail takes a lot out of you... go out and treat yourself every once in a while.

9. Take pride in yourself

Dress nicely and go to work put together! This will help you in the real world!

10. Communication is key

Stand up for yourself and talk out your problems! These experiences will help you when you're in any situation for the future. You'll learn how to say things nicely, put things a certain way, and over all get better communication skills.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
