"Grandmas hold our tiny hands for just a little while, but our hearts forever." — Unknown
Whether you don't speak to your grandmother, see her rarely, or have her as your only mother figure, I guarantee she loves you dearly. I consider myself pretty close to my grandma and I feel that she has taught me a lot! Here are 11 things I have learned from her.
1. Bleach cleans everything!
Why are grandmas' towels, washcloths, and most of her clothes white? Because you can clean it with bleach! This is my grandmother's staple cleaning item and I don't remember a time where it wasn't! Is that weird? Or is it a grandma thing? Either way I will never forget this fact.
2. There is always something to clean
It may not seem like anything is dirty, but something I have learned from both my mother and grandmother is that if you look hard enough you will find something to clean. You're bored? Clean. You're stressed? Clean. A clean home is a happy home!
3. Where there's a will, there's a way!
I have always looked up to my grandma because she has gone through a lot, but often refuses help. If that woman thinks she can do something, she will damn well do it without hesitation!
4. Your best friend can be your worst enemy
Choose your friends wisely! Keep your good friends close and cherish them. But if one of your so called "friends" loses your trust or doesn't treat you like you deserve to be treated, it is OK to move on and grow as a person without them!
5. Don't care about what others think of you
Do you want to wear fuzzy moccasins with a tank top on an 80 degree day to Walmart? Fine. Do you want to wear a onesie to get the mail? Go for it. Post weird Snapchats all over social media? Be my guest. Just don't care about what other people think of you because you do you, boo!
6. Grandma will always be there for you
My grandma loves all her grandkids and will open her arms for us at anytime. Whenever we need her she is just a phone call away! She loves phone calls and is more than willing to talk to us about our problems.
7. Grandma always has food and candy
My grandmother is stereotypical in the fact that she always wants to feed her guests! If you are even just a little hungry, she will make you eat.
8. Do not misbehave around her
If you misbehave, grandma will pull out the "pancake turner." Growing up, my cousins and I always feared the pancake turner! If grandma runs to the kitchen drawer you know she means business!
9. It is grandma's job to spoil you
Of course she is going to want to spoil you! Her kids are moved out with their own families and she longs for someone to take care of. She wants to please you, and will often say yes when your parents say no.
10. She has to be fair to all the grandchildren
Having a cousin super close in age means my grandma has to be fair with us, or it will result in a not-so-pleasant situation. We get birthday cards with the same amount of money, the same amount of Halloween candy, and the list goes on.
11. Last thing? Always love your grandma
My grandma has done a lot for me and my family and I am so grateful. She is a wonderful woman who deserves the world! I have learned to cherish every moment I have with her.
So that's it! She sure has taught me a lot, here are just 11 of those things. Grandmas are certainly a gift and we should always love and learn from them! So you tell me, what have you learned from your grandma?
