Growing up in a small town is a dream and a nightmare all at the same time. Your best friends are there for life and everyone is practically your extended family. It has its ups and downs but I wouldn't change it for anything. Here are some things that are most likely true if, like me, you grew up in a tiny town.
1. No body knows where you are from.
"Oh, *insert tiny town*? I have never heard of that!"
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no one has.
2. You know almost everyone.
These are the people you have known your whole life. You went to high school together, your parents most likely went to high school together, and maybe, if you’re lucky like me, your grandparents went to high school together.
3. Everyone knows all of your business.
When they say news travels fast, they have never grown up in a small town, because here news travels at lightning speed. Especially with social media how it is now.
4. You can't go anywhere without seeing someone you know.
Trying to decide if you should get ready and look presentable before running to the grocery store? The answer is yes, you probably should because you will most likely see someone you know and talk to them for at least 30 minutes.
5. You were friends with most, if not all, of your teachers in high school.
In fact, they probably also went to high school with your parents.
6. You know the ins and outs of your town like the back of your hand.
Oh, you need to get to *said establishment*? Just go up 3.2 miles make a right and at the big rock make a left. If you see the cows, you’ve gone too far.
7. Everyone is there for each other when tragedy strikes.
It’s amazing the impact such a small amount of people can have on one community and the help they bring when something happens to one of their members.
8. You probably graduated with less than 200 people.
And you can’t decide whether that is a good thing or a bad thing.
9. The (few) sports at your school might as well have been Olympic.
10. You have had the same friends you entire life.
11. It will always be your home.
This town made you who you are and you wouldn’t be the same without it. Even if you have moved on or moved away you can’t even imagine what it would have been like to grow up in a different place.
