A lot of things happen when you move back home from college for the summer. There is a roller coaster of emotions from the high excitement of seeing your family for the first time in months, to the moments where you are pulling your hair out because your family is driving you crazy and you can't wait for August to come. Here are some of the good, the bad, and the ugly moments that happen college students experience when moving back home.
1. Packing up the car.
How did you ever fit this much stuff into a tiny box room that you shared?! More importantly, where did you put all of this stuff for the past 9 months?
2. Unpacking the car and putting stuff away is impossible.
Your belongings now take over your room, the floor, and the basement; you are literally drowning in stuff everywhere.
3. Contemplating even bothering putting your stuff away.
If you're going to move back to school in three months is it even worth unpacking? Really it would just be saving the trouble of repacking in August.
4. Being super excited to see your family.
Then realizing three days later your welcomeness has worn off and then you fall into the realm of chores and responsibility.
5. No shower shoes!!!!
You can now step into the comfort of your own shower for the next 3 months without having to wear those grimy shower shoes. Not to mention the perks of pooping in private whenever you want!
6. Getting to sleep in your own room.
You finally get to stretch out on your Queen sized bed instead of those tiny brick-padded bunk beds. Although you have to admit, while sharing a room was hard, you're going to miss all the awesome late-night talks, memories, and irreplaceable bonds you and your roommate shared.
7. Making Summer plans to go on adventures and workout.
Your plan to workout, eat healthy, see friends, and go on adventures sounds great... for the first three days. Your squat thrusts and fruit-infused water on the beach quickly turns into pizza rolls on the couch while binge watching OTH on Netflix.
8. Being excited for home cooked meals!
You can't wait to have your mom's special recipe chicken dumplings. However, you quickly realize making your own meals all the time kind of sucks, and you start to appreciate the cafe at school a little more.
9. Planning to get a great job and make tons of money this summer.
Your "great" job ends up being a double shift at the fast food joint down the road, but at least now you can pay that college deposit for next year and still have some spending money for your weekend adventures.
10. Realizing your dog is your best friend at home.
Not that there is anything wrong with your fuzzy four legged friend, but you quickly start to miss all the movie nights, card games, and impromptu Midnight Taco Bell runs you shared with your college friends.
11. Asking yourself, is it August yet?
Summer is great but you miss the freedom you had at college. Although you totally are not mentally prepared to start classes, you are very much ready to go back and see your friends.
