11 Things To Know About Jersey Girls
Hautahi Kingi

I've lived in New Jersey my whole life and I never realized -- compared to girls from other states -- my daily actions are very different! This year, I attended school in Minnesota where I was shown, "This isn't New Jersey anymore." Some people were surprised by my personality, actions, and even music choice! So to the "foreigners," here are 11 things you need to know about us Garden State girls.

1. To you, we're aggressive -- to us, we're being friendly.

I promise we're not always loud, but when we are it's for the greater good. We've gotten called crazy and aggressive our whole lives! It's nothing new. We're from Jersey, if we're not a little crazy around you something is definitely wrong. And I should mention, it comes out even over text... "HAHAHA."

2. Our lives are nothing like "Jersey Shore."

Don't get me wrong; some people actually do live out this lifestyle the minute it turns May, but 90 percent of us don't. In fact, some of us have never even watched the show but we may have stumbled upon some of the characters or the Shore House on our innocent family vacations.

3. We love the shore.

This picture above is an accurate representation of our summers. It's going "DTS" (down the shore) what makes us happy. It's not called a beach. It's the shore.

4. Our energy levels at weddings and parties are usually insanely higher than the average American.

Ask me how many Sweet Sixteens, Quinceaneras, or Bat Mitzvahs I've been to -- it's more than I can count on my fingers and toes.

5. Don't mess with our Taylor Ham, egg and cheese.

Every day without this sandwich is a day I regret not hopping over to my local bagel shop. You won't understand it's hype until you eat one, trust me.

6. We have large malls within a 10-mile radius.

It's probably why we're broke and have a shopping addiction. Most of our conversations with our friends involve, "Hey, wanna meet up the mall?" or "Let's just eat at the mall and see how our plans go from there."

7. Some may say we have a potty mouth.

Drive in New Jersey and try not to curse. Better yet, grow up in New Jersey and you'll hear your first curse words by kindergarten. To us, it's in our daily vocabulary, we're not always fighting to use it but if you see our hands moving and hear some things that should be censored prepare for an earthquake.

8. We love our hometown diners.

After football games, late night events, or even breakfast the diner is the first thing on our minds. To each Jersey girl her hometown diner is the best. Don't argue it.

9. New Jersey bagels and pizza are #1. Don't even bring up New York.

I mean, just look at this! Clearly us Jersey girls aren't afraid of carbs or grease because we will finish two of these "bigger than your hand" slices in less than 30 minutes.

10. "Jersey girls don't pump gas."

What? You don't have a guy that pumps your gas for you, while all you do is roll down your window? That's unfortunate! If you ever see someone taking a picture of a girl pumping her own gas, chances are she's from Jersey.

11. Stop asking me where my accent is.

Growing up in "Joisey" I have maybe heard the famous accent ten times max. I don't have an accent and I will not acquire one. Go home and take your dawg and couwfee with you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
