11 Struggles Middle Schoolers Had In 2006

Middle school was the worst, and somehow kids today get to live without these problems.

Once upon a time middle school was awkward, boys were everything, and technology wasn't advanced. Well nowadays that time has ended and there is no more awkwardness. It's like the nation was gifted by the Fairy Godmother and bibity bobity boo! Children today don't even know what these eleven struggles are even about.

1. Phones had antennas and flipped/slid.

My first phone was before the razor. It had and antenna and I felt so cool to have one. It was also really satisfying to hang up a flip phone when your mom made you mad. Kids today don't appreciate what it meant to get a phone because now it's expected.

2. Text messaging limits.

250 texts was all I could send a month, which when you were in middle school it meant having to risk your life and nightmares and not forward those chain texts to ten people. And now kids only have to worry about their data limits.

3. Phones didn't have internet or wifi.

Internet used to be a luxury, smart phones didn't exist yet, but we had blackberries.

4. Blue Eyeshadow.

We had to figure out the hard way not to wear blue eyeshadow by itself. How did these girls figure it out?

5. Gaucho Pants.

I owned a pair in pretty much every color, I now cringed when I see them trying to come back to life.

6. Crocs.

Yes, Crocs were once considered cool.

7. Graphic Tees.

Yes, we thought we were cool with Aeropostle plastered across our chest.

8. Myspace.

Never having to worry about who your top eight friends are and how to remove Tom (I believe) is a blessing. Also designing your page was the most stressful thing a 13 year old had done.

9. Awkward Selfies and Mirror Pics.

Selfies weren't even a thing but we sure did take them from the highest angle along with peace signs. Mirror pics were usually done with a camera. and included a flash.

10. Pretty much every fashion trend.

It was a hard time even for celebrities.

11. Crushes.

Luckily those are still the same.

Life wasn't so bad, we had great movies, music, and TV. The Kardashians were just becoming a thing, and we were still kids.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
