11 Signs You're Growing Up

Whether you've embraced it or completely denied it, there's no hiding the fact that we're getting older. What we do, say, and think aren't what we would've done, said or thought a couple of years ago. And you know you're getting older if you've related to any of these things:

1. You have voluntarily stayed in on Friday nights.

You've turned down the opportunities to turn up because you'd rather have a date with Netflix and your pillow. The older you get, the earlier your bedtime seems to become.

2. You have realized the beauty of a home-cooked meal.

Whether you're at school or at work, you have come to know that it's easier to just brown-bag lunch or bring in your handy dandy tupperware bowl. It's easier, cheaper, and healthier than going on take-out runs.

3. You have had to continuously scroll for your year of birth online.

*Finger cramps*

4. You have watched movies like The Little Mermaid and thought Ariel was naive.

"But daddy, I love him!" "I'm 16 years old, I'm not a child anymore!" Oh silly Ariel, you still know so little.

5. You have gotten excited over clothing gifts.

As a kid, you probably hated getting clothes for Christmas or your birthday and would rather have the newest Barbie or Transformer. These days, you get excited when the majority of your presents are clothes. Especially socks. And especially fun, patterned, work-appropriate socks.

6. You have found yourself to be utterly confused by new and trending games, toys, and TV shows.

For example, Shopkins are beyond me. Also, can we make a collective generational effort for our future children to grow up watching Lizzie McGuire, Drake and Josh, and That's So Raven, The Amanda Show, etc. instead of shows like Dog With A Blog?

7. You have downloaded Pokemon Go.

But not because you're just a band-wagon downloader. You got the game because you grew up with Ash and lived through the Pokemon phase, so you genuinely got excited that you could catch them all and relive your glory days.

8. You have had to google modern slang.

Thank goodness for Urban Dictionary for saving me from the feeling of utter dread when you realize you're just not cool anymore.

9. You have throwback playlists.

But you don't consider them throwbacks - they're just the greatest hits of your generation. Filled with Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears, you know that one day these will be featured on the oldies radio stations. It's even weirder to think that someday, so will "Work" and "One Dance." But we all know that we're still going to get jiggy to it.

10. You have had the need to take copious amounts of naps.

There's no need to feel guilty about taking a nice cat nap. Think of it this way: you're simply using your roll over minutes from when you refused to fall asleep as a child.

And lastly...

11. You have realized the beauty of Kohl's and Target.

You used to be the uncool kid in school if you didn't get your clothes from Justice or Forever 21. Nowadays, you relish over the feeling that comes with, "Oh, I bought this shirt at Kohl's! And it was on sale so it was only $8. You know Kohl's, always a sale and you gotta love Kohl's cash!"

If you related to any one of these, it simply means that you're getting older. And that isn't a bad thing, because with age comes wisdom. Well, the wisdom to call out the silliness of the younger generations.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
