Some girls find themselves falling for boys in colorful frat shorts and button-down shirts. Other girls dream of dating the "bad boy" who can be found at the skate park with his flat top on backwards and skinny jeans "casually" drooping. But then there are the girls who fall in love with the boys who can be found in a garage at all hours of the day. If you're dating a car guy, this probably wasn't news to you because it's a passion that's pretty hard to hide, but here are a few quirks that a lot of "car girlfriends" can relate to.

1. You feel honored that his car or truck comes second to you.

They will always be his "baby", but he will always love you just a little bit more.

2. You're used to seeing grease and oil stains on his clothes.

And his hands? He needs the heavy duty soap to get those things clean.

3. He likes to save money (until he finds car parts to buy).

It's the most expensive shopping addiction I've ever seen.

4. Dates include going to car shows and drag races.

And you get excited about going just as much as he does.

5. You've gotten used to the smell of burnt rubber and gas.

To be honest, you probably love the smell more than anything.

6. Watching you drive his car makes him the proudest boyfriend around.

You also feel extremely honored to drive the car he won't even let his friends drive around.

7. You suddenly have the urge to modify your own car.

And once the wish list is started, it'll keep getting longer and longer.

8. When you're out in public, he'll stop mid-conversation with you just to stare at a car or truck he's in love with.

It used to bother you at first, but now you stare along with him.

9. Shopping for him is easy; he just sends links for parts that he wants.

And when in doubt (or too broke to buy parts), a t-shirt or hat that expresses his love for cars will do just fine.

10. You're slowly gaining the ability to identify cars just by the way they sound when they go by.

Honestly, it's an impressive skill that I never thought I'd learn, but almost 3 years later, I find myself listening just as much as my boyfriend does.

11. Out of your friends, you can be classified as the "car girl."

While some girls don't even know how to pump their own gas, you find yourself learning about cold-air intakes, blow-off valves, superchargers, and lifts. You love being out on the road more than anything, and your favorite sound is that turbo spooling. And you wouldn't want it any other way.

Dating a car guy is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Chances are, your boyfriend is one of the hardest workers you've ever met and loves the simple things in life that everyone else takes for granted. I promise you that even though it may annoy you when he tells you the same thing about his car a million times, it's a passion that grows quickly and will never go away. I might be a little biased, but car guys are some of the best boyfriends you'll ever find. Plus, who could argue with a free personal mechanic?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
