Relationships can be terrifying, rewarding, confusing, or all of the above. Every relationship has obstacles and natural incompatibilities, but it can be hard to decide if these obstacles are manageable or not. Here are 11 signs that it’s time to move on (pronouns interchangeable):
1. He stops caring about the things going on in your life.
At the beginning, he smiled and nodded as you droned on and on about your day. Now he checks his phone in the middle of your sentence and constantly interrupts you. It seems like he doesn’t listen to what you’re saying. You wonder if he cares about you as much as you care about him.
2. He only shows interest when he thinks another guy is in the picture
If he starts being controlling when other guys are around you, he may be realizing your relationship is at risk. This may seem like he’s starting to come to his senses, but it’s possible he’s acting out of jealousy.
3. He only shows interest when you're showing signs of letting go
You used to be inseparable, but now being together is a chore. You’re not hanging out as much anymore, and he notices how distant you’re being. He may bring this up or get angry, but it could be a sign of fear rather than affection.
4. Nothing you do is right
It seems like everything you do makes him angry. The little quirks that he found adorable seem to annoy him now. You realize you deserve someone who accepts you for you, quirks and all, and he just isn’t that person anymore.
5. Nothing he does is right
Remember when he used to surprise you with your favorite candy on a bad day? Now it’s a hassle for him to send you a single text. You find yourself continuously disappointed in your relationship and in him, even when it’s not his fault.
6. He's continuously hurting you
It's almost like he's purposely trying to make you angry, jealous, or just sad. This is never okay in any relationship, no matter what his intentions are. He is making you unhappy, and it's time to reconsider walking away.
7. He keeps making promises that he has no intention of keeping
He promises he’ll be there for you more; he promises to do better. And maybe he does, for a while. But he continuously slips into his old habits, disregarding your input and emotions. You worry the cycle will never end and you’re becoming increasingly unhappy.
8. You begin to cherish your memories with him more than your time now
All you want is to feel the excitement that the beginning of your relationship brought, so you reminisce about your first date or your first kiss together. You feel nostalgic now, as if the moment has already passed. Maybe it has.
9. You start forgetting what the good times felt like
The butterflies aren’t there anymore, and you feel like they’ll never come back. You try to remember the qualities about him that enamored you, but you can’t bring yourself to feel the same way anymore.
10. He ignores you
You used to be able to talk for hours. Now he seems distracted and distant during your conversations. He replies to your communication attempts with one-word responses and you’re tired of trying to connect with him.
11. The idea of moving on feels like the right decision, compared to staying around
In any relationship, you have to compare your expectations to your satisfaction in the relationship. Maybe you still love him and care for him, but you need to think about yourself. If you think you’d be happier with someone else or alone, it is time to consider moving on. You’re unhappy, and it’s unfair for both of you. It’s okay to put your own happiness in front of his if it means a better future for the both of you, even if that future isn’t together.
Moving on is never easy, but it also isn’t impossible. If you feel like it’s time to make that step in ending your relationship, then you need to just do it. Everyone deserves to be happy and treated right, and you shouldn’t allow any significant other to treat you any other way. Guy or girl, you deserve the damn world.
