Most of us can tell if we're an introvert or an extrovert. We either love to be in the constant company of other people, or we'd rather be alone. We love to be the center of attention, or we prefer to blend in with the crowd. But it isn't always one or the other for some of us. Sometimes we're a mix of both of these, and it gets confusing because you don't know which category you fall into. So here are some of the telltale signs that you're an introvert with a buzzing social life.
1. You make yourself go to parties.
Because let's be honest, you'd much rather stay in and binge watch "Grey's Anatomy" in bed. But it's Thursday night, and you don't want all your friends to think you're blowing them off. So, you throw on a hot outfit, go dance with your friends, and end up having lots of fun (with lots of pictures for Instagram, of course).
2. You enjoy solitude, but not too much solitude.
You like to be by yourself for a time, whether you're home alone or in a quiet corner of the library between classes. But chances are, you're probably texting at least one person. Because even though you don't want company, you still feel lonely if your inbox is empty.
3. You don't mind going places alone...
Whether you're buying a new outfit, making a quick trip to Walmart, or simply walking to class, you don't feel the need to have anyone with you. You're perfectly content with a solitary walk, drive, or stroll through the store where you can collect your thoughts and enjoy your "me" time. You actually kind of enjoy the peace.
4. ...But having friends with you does make it fun!
Because sometimes you just need someone to try on ugly sweaters with you for a good laugh, or people-watch with you at the store, or grab a pumpkin spice latte with you on the way to class.
5. Your best friend is also a social introvert.
You're probably in the same sorority or group of friends, and force each other to go to all the events and parties when it's the last thing either of you feels like doing. You'll thank each other later.
6. You're the quiet one at parties.
You don't talk to anyone unless they talk to you first. You're either way too socially awkward or you just don't feel like talking to anyone. Either way, this is you every Thursday night, and you're perfectly okay with it.
7. You enjoy silence in the presence of others.
Maybe you're both reading or watching TV, or maybe you're getting a bite to eat. Whatever you and your friend(s) are doing, no one is saying a word. Nothing is wrong at all. You just know you don't always need words to enjoy another person's company.
8. You're super involved on campus and still don't know everybody.
You've only held a conversation with a handful of your sorority sisters or fraternity brothers, and the same goes for the people on your sports team or other campus organizations. You love each and every one of them, but you are a person of few words and are too shy to talk to anyone who doesn't reach out to you first.
9. You're ecstatic when you meet another introvert.
Because now you've got someone to share your struggle with and drag on social outings with you. And of course you expect them to do the same thing to you.
10. You don't like too much attention drawn to yourself...
When restaurant staff sings to you on your birthday. When a teacher calls on you. When a random person drives by and cat-calls you. You just want to fall into a hole in the ground because it's too much. You feel awkward and nervous, and you're turning red. It's just bad. It's a special kind of torture.
11. ...But just a little bit can make your day.
Because who doesn't like being told they're cute or that their outfit is nice? Or when a friend calls your name and seems happy to see you? Yes, even introverts want to be well-liked.
