News about the upcoming revival series by Netflix and the reveal of the release date has every "Gilmore Girls" fanatic talking. This is the chance to make up for the disappointing last season and for everyone's questions to be answered. (Don't worry, I won't give away an spoilers for those just now jumping aboard the "Pickle Train") GG fans know that the show is more than just a show about a mother and daughter. "Gilmore Girls" is about family and mistakes and, my favorite, girl power. The Gilmores are feminist icons and here's why.
1. Loralei is extremely independent — She, a single parent by choice, raised a bright daughter with a good heart. She left her stuffy home to create a new life without her parents' money on her own terms.
2. "Gilmore Girls" proves that both men and women have the same intellectual abilities — Rory graduated as valedictorian and Student Body President through hard work and perseverance.
3. Loralei is her own boss — She started a successful business from scratch.
4. The women of "Gilmore Girls" build each other up instead of tear each other down
5. "The Gilmore Girls" fight for what they believe in — like coffee. How many times has Loralei fought Luke for a cup and won?
6. Loralei thought that since boys name their kids after themselves, why couldn't she?
7. Almost every episode passed the Bechdel test — In order to pass this test, a TV show or movie must include at least two women talking to each other about something other than a man. This test is actually very difficult to pass.
8. Lorelai knew she didn't need a man — She said no when Christopher proposed to her after finding out she was pregnant. She knew that he was not ready to be the kind of parent that their daughter needed.
9. They choose to have men in their life — Every woman in "Gilmore Girls" proves they can do whatever they put their mind to without a man. However, they are not at all against men or dating, in fact they welcome them, but they don't need them.
10. Rory chose her dreams and her education over a man.
11. They are not afraid to be themselves — It doesn't matter who they're with or what they're doing, the "Gilmore Girls" will eat to their hearts content and be as witty as they want. They don't change who they are for anyone. Whoever is in their lives has to accept that.
