11 Reasons Why October Is The Best Month

11 Reasons Why October Is The Best Month
Isabella Goulden

Sure, all months have their perks; December has Christmas, March means spring break, and July means fireworks and cookouts. That being said, all of the other months don't stand a chance against October. It is by far the best month as a whole, and here is why.

1. Fall weather

October weather is the best weather. It's still warm enough to where you can sometimes still wear shorts or dresses, but cool enough to where you can start layering and wearing light sweaters. Also, October has the best weather when it comes to being in college because it means you won't get super sweaty, or freeze to death, when walking across campus.

2. Fall colors

The leaves in October are always so pretty (and can be fun to play in, too). At this point in the year, everything just looks warm and glowy from the changing leaves.

3. Halloween

Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. I get tons of free candy and I get to dress up? I'm all in. Plus, it's really fun to people watch on Halloween, even if you don't go trick or treating.

4. Pumpkin EVERYTHING

Coffee, cookies, candles, pie, . You can pretty much find anything you could ever want in pumpkin flavor or scent throughout the month of October.

5. Fairs and Festivals

In Oklahoma at least, October means the fair and Oktoberfest. While I don't typically go to the fair, it is still an October staple and thousands of people enjoy it, making it another reason that October is the best month. On that note, I can definitely say that Oktoberfest is a fantastic festival and I go every year. It has everything from rides and shopping, to German food, weenie dog races, and people drunkenly singing and dancing along to the chicken dance (who wouldn't want to see that?).

6. Hot chocolate season

Since the weather is cooling off, that means it's time for another fall staple: hot chocolate season. Whether you're having it on your way to class in the morning, or at night by the fire with your friends, hot chocolate is just another great part of October (and of course you can get it in pumpkin flavor).

7. Halloween movies

My favorites aren't the scariest ones, but Halloween movies are definitely the best. Every year, ABC Family does "13 Nights of Halloween" where they show the best Halloween movies. Hocus Pocus, Harry Potter, Corpse Bride, and Poltergeist are played several times, and there are even more that I didn't mention.

8. Ghost stories

Personally, I'm not normally that interested in scary things. When October rolls around, though, I love all things spooky. Those chilly fall nights when you're with your friends are the best time to share scary stories and freak each other out.

9. Wear all black without people judging you

I'm someone who wears a lot of dark colors anyway, but since October is Halloween month, it's more socially acceptable to do so. People just assume you're dressing up or something and it's not as "weird." Plus, you'll look like Taylor Swift, which is always a goal.

10. Candy

October is a month full of candy. People celebrate Halloween all month, meaning you can pretty much find free candy all over the place. Plus, there will be Halloween candy sales everywhere, which is a huge perk.

11. It's almost Thanksgiving

After October is November, which means it's almost Thanksgiving, which means family time and lots and lots of food.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
