11 Reasons Why I Love Christmas

I love Christmas! I mean who doesn't? Probably the Grinch and Jack Frost but besides them, I absolutely love Christmas because of the holiday spirit! December is a great month because school is out, Santa, Christmas movies and Christmas itself! Here are 11 reasons why Christmas is a great holiday!

1. Jesus is the Reason for the Season

I mean there is Christ in Christmas. Especially growing up in a Catholic family, I love this time of year. It is all about celebrating Jesus's arrival on earth and celebrating that He is born. My favorite Gospel on Christmas is from Luke 2:15-20. It talks about the shepherd and finding the Holy Family.

2. Food

I mean who doesn't love food? Another good thing about this holiday is food on food. I just love food.

3. Christmas Movies

Can we talk about "Elf", "Christmas Carol", "Home Alone" series, "The Polar Express", and "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas"? There is so much more that I could add but I love all of the Christmas movies. They are all about bringing back my childhood memories.

4. Lights Everywhere

I love decorating the house with lights. I love going to places to see lights. A tradition in my family is going to St. Augustine and seeing the Festival of Lights. There is always somewhere you can go to see lights from Jacksonville Beach to San Marco.

5. Presents

I love receiving presents as well as giving presents. I work in retail and I know so many people buy last minute but I love giving out presents to my family. I just worked on Christmas Eve and I was busy, the mall was busy so I know. Plus the deals for Christmas gifts like 50% off the whole store or buy one, get one half off!

6. Christmas Trees

I love decorating Christmas trees with my mom and sister. I love looking at Christmas trees especially the ones at church and at the malls. The best part is putting presents underneath the beautiful Christmas trees.

7. Having 70-80 degree Weather

This is Florida in December. I am so glad that I live in Florida because I can not take the cold. I wish I could but I know I can't. I want to see snow and stay for a week.

8. Christmas Music

I love listening to Christmas music as it get near Christmas and after Christmas. From "Jingle Bells", "What Child Is This?", "Little Drummer Boy", "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer", "Hark the Harold Angels Sing", and "We Three Kings of Orient are" are some of my favorite songs. Don't forget about Mariah Carey and Michael Buble. I absolutely love the midnight mass at church because thirty minutes before mass starts, the Jacksonville Symphony plays Christmas music.

9. Santa

The history of Santa is awesome. Santa comes from the saint St.Nicholas. St.Nicholas became the patron saint of children and gift bearings because in a story, St. Nicholas saved three girls from a life of prostitution by delivering three bags of gold secretly to their indebted father which was used for their dowries. It is stories like this that brings the Christmas spirit.

10. Generosity and Christmas Cheer

I feel like only at Christmas, can you get everyone to be so happy. I see smiling faces, Christmas spirits, joyful, people being generous, people donating, people doing such a good deed.

11. Family

This one really speaks to me because this year was the first time I was away from my family for college and I love coming back for a month and being together with my family. Family is one of the most important reason as to why I am in college and who I am as a person.

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays and I get to celebrate my sister's birthday. My sister just turned 10 on Christmas and she was one of the best presents I got 10 years ago. I hope everyone had a wonderful and blessed Christmas!
