11 Ways You Know You're Still A Kid At Heart

Because we all need a little childishness to get us through the day.

I'm technically a legal adult, which means that I have just expanded my ability to do the fun things that I did as a child. Also, bedtime isn't a thing anymore. Here's 11 ways that I know I'm a kid at heart--do they apply to you too?

1. You watch and enjoy cartoons.

Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, and Avatar: The Last Airbender ring a bell for anybody?

2. You make friendship bracelets.

Bonus points if you make them while you watch cartoons with me.

3. You like cats (or your favorite animal) as much, if not more than you did ten years ago.

I had cat stickers, cat shirts, cat binders, cat earrings, cat necklaces, cat mugs…and I still do.

4. You frequently describe yourself as a “kid with a driver’s license”.

Because now I can drive myself to all those super cool, super fun places that I always wanted to go to as a kid. Pro tip: Chuck E Cheese is significantly less cooler as an adult, but Dave & Buster’s is maybe even cooler.

5. All of your favorite foods involve cheese.

Cheese pizza. Mac’n’cheese. Cheesy potatoes. Cheez-its (do those count?). Basically, if it's cheese and carbs, it's the best.

6. You like naps.

College really makes you appreciate your eight hours of sleep, even if 2-4 of those hours are during the daytime.

7. Speaking of sleeping, I still sleep with my favorite stuffed animal from childhood.

Shoutout to Fraisel, who’s been with me for almost 10 years. You’re the real MVP.

8. You enjoy children’s books.

I’m not even ashamed: children’s books are more down-to-earth, more interesting, and often more profound than books for grownups. Also, I was Pete the Cat as a costumed character, so he's the bomb dot com.

9. You love shiny things.

Turns out glitter never loses its appeal, and neither do diamonds. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but glitter is forever. This week I found glitter in my stuff from a party I went to last year. I’ve moved three times since that party.

10. You don’t want to do your homework.

Whatever age you are, you know this: your family is your support system and the people who should love you unconditionally.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
