'Tis the season for relationships—where romance is on every corner, all your friends post that they are thankful for their significant other, and post photos that make you happy for them. Then you realize that you're single.Never fear, for being single is the trend this year! Here are 11 reasons why being single is great for both guys and girls.
1. Shaving (you don't have to)
For girls this can be legs, for guys it's your face. You don't have to worry about being too prickly for someone or having that uncomfortable touch of facial or body hair.
2. Food sharing is a "no"
Your one true love doesn't have to be shared with anyone else—you can eat all the fries (or whatever food it is you binge eat).
3. Don't have to plan around anyone else
Now you don't have to clear all your weekend plans for your significant other. You can go out for boys/girls night and have fun with the gang.
4. More "me time"
You can sit around and watch Netflix all day without a care in the world. You can spend more time with your friends and family.
5. Save money
For guys—this is for you. You don't have to worry about spending your money on a girl, and girls you don't have to "feel bad" every time your boy wants to spend money on you. And if you both pay for things for each other, well, that also works.
6. Don't have to worry about answering them every five minutes
There's this idea that when you're in a relationship, every single second of the day you are texting your significant other. It's OK not to be texting someone all the time. Yes, it's nice, but it's not necessary. And not having someone to text you cute/gross relationship type things isn't the worst thing in the world.
7. Don't have to share a bed/blankets
For those that are intimate in relationships, if you don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend/significant other then you don't have to worry about sharing a bed or blanket space. Congrats! You don't have to concern yourself with issues like getting a bigger blanket or thinking about how college beds aren't meant to hold two people.
8. Limit does not exist on hookups
Well yes, you are single, but don't be a Barney Stinson and sleep with everything with two legs and a pulse. Have fun every once in a while, but don't think that getting under someone else is going to help you get over your old person.
9. More time with friends
One of the best parts of your life isn't the relationships you've gone through, but the friends who were always there through it all. You can spend more time with them if there isn't a significant other making you spend all of your time with them. Take the time and appreciate your friends—have a night watching bad movies and ordering Chinese food.
10. More time to focus on work/academics
Sometimes your significant other can motivate you to do better, and sometimes they distract you so much that you actually do worse. Don't worry about dating the cute guy in your class, just focus on getting your work done. You're at college for a reason, and it's not to find your future husband.
11. Bucket List Adventure
If you are in a relationship, you could do more things with you boyfriend/girlfriend. But think about it—you have a bucket list of things you want to do before graduation or before you turn 30. You don't (or at least you shouldn't) have to revolve that around your significant other. You can have all the fun in the world on your own. Pick a new adventure every month, and just go for it. You never know the fun you can experience by yourself!
So yes—even in this holiday season of romance and idealistic couple photos, you can still have an amazing time being single. You don't need someone under the mistletoe or for a New Year's kiss. You can have as much fun as the next person completely on your own. Just enjoy being single. You really are all you need to be happy!
