Growing up, you always look forward to summer vacation. School is out, vacations are on, and it is a time of more freedom. While these things still ring true, for a college student, summer just isn't the same as it used to be anymore. Here are some reasons why your summer might feel a little different than it did in high school.
1. Your Parents Are Used To You Not Being Around
My parents don't ever complain when I'm not at home and they don't really question when I go out at weird times in the night. This is definitely different than high school.
2. You Probably Have To Work
Also leading to you never being home are dreaded long hours at work. If college taught me anything, it's how little I make in my part-time job in a grocery store.
3. High School Friends Aren't As Close Anymore
You probably made a pact with your high school friends to remain close through college. Now you can see that truthfully, that most likely didn't happen. Being home now is weird because you don't have as many friends to spend time with.
4. Summer Classes...EW.
They are the worst kind of classes. They are shorter than a normal semester, but seem like they last for all eternity.
5. Your College Friends Live All Over The Country
Not only do you not have as many friends to hang out with at home, all your friends you made in college aren't around either. You learn a new level of missing someone when you're away from your college friends.
6. You Become Bored So Much Easier
Sitting around all day doing nothing, is not at all fun. I've taken more naps this summer out of boredom than I think I did out of exhaustion the whole school year.
7. You Don't Live With Tons Of People Your Age
You're now possibly living among adults, kids, or bratty teenagers, and it surely isn't as fun as living with hundreds of other students your own age.
8. You Want To Do So Many Things, Yet You're Too Broke To
Before summer break starts, you have so many plans, then it is here and you realize there is no way you can afford to do everything you possibly wanted to do.
9. Your Sleep Schedule Is A Mess
I don't even know what sleep is anymore.
10. Home Isn't Home Anymore
It's strange. The place you grew up in doesn't even feel like home anymore. You'll miss your tiny dorm room bed and sharing a bathroom with a bunch of other students.
11. You're Counting Down The Days Until School Starts Back
Besides classes starting, you're so ready to move back to school...tick tock tick tock.
