You can't fully appreciate the relationship you have with your sister until you leave for college and are separated by distance. Gone are the endless days of hanging out together, watching your favorite TV shows, eating dinner as a family, and knowing what the other is doing at each moment of the day. At first, this change was hard to handle and you weren't used to having to text or Facetime just to be able to talk. Now in my junior year of college I know that no matter how far apart we are, that she will always be my best friend and biggest supporter and vice versa. My sisters my person.
1. She understands you like no one else
I mean could anyone else know everything about your life like your sister can? She's been there through everything, the good and the bad, and she remembers it all. Sisters know your favorite foods and places, they know all the secrets you hold, and you've literally been together since birth so they've seen all of your less attractive moments... Puberty ring a bell anyone? Despite this, you're still close as ever which shows how deep of a bond you have.
2. Her closet is yours
Ever since you were kids your mom was buying matching outfits but in different colors, which was ultimately setting you up for share failure. Your sister always had great style and hey if you didn't have to buy it but got to wear it, who wouldn't try? This sharing of clothes led to some pretty epic fights but you eventually got over it the next time you wanted to borrow her sandals. I mean lets face it, half your wardrobe is in your sisters closet.
3. She brings out your overprotective side
Nothing will make you more mad than when someone disrespects your sister. Sure, you can say whatever you want about her, but nobody else can. When it comes to your sister you would be willing to do anything to protect her.
4. She enjoys food as much as you do
Who else will order something so you can each get half of the others plate? Your sister is someone who doesn't judge how much you eat or what time of night your busting open the fridge because she's right there with you. Your 100% comfortable pigging out with her because honestly she's seen you do way worse.
5. She tells it like it is
No matter what the situation is your sister isn't going to sugarcoat it for you. Unlike your other friends, she's not afraid to tell you the brutally honest truth, no matter how much it will hurt. Due to this, you have an even greater respect for each other because you know she isn't lying when she says that your outfit is ugly or that the boy your talking to isn't worth your time.
6. You have the best snap streaks
Distance may have been hard in the past, but that was before Snapchat. You now receive dozens of snaps a day of your sister with every new filter that comes out, dog filter, voice changer, frown face, etc. So of course you have to send them all back, with the ugliest face that only your sister can receive.
7. People mistake you for each other
If only you had a dollar for every time someone asked if you were twins *SIGH*. From the check out lady at the store, to the random guy on the street. Even your own friends are always talking about how alike you look and your parents can't tell your voices apart on the phone. But seriously, you know that its the best compliment because your sister is gorgeous and they think you're the same person.
8. Best inside jokes ever
You both know everything about each other so this makes for the best jokes. Your sister is your best gossip talker because you know everything you say she basically agrees with and will never tell anyone else.
9. She gets away with everything
Despite how hard you may try, you can never truly stay mad at your sister. She can do the worst things, but you eventually forgive her for it and move on because you want your best friend back.
10. She gives the best advice
A sister can spot a bad guy from a mile away, even if you think he's the best thing to ever walk the earth. She calls you out on all of your bullshit and is there to listen when you need to vent. Because of how much she loves you she'll give you her best advice, even if its not what you want to hear.
11. She's your person
No matter what, your sister is always going to be your best friend. She's the only person that has stuck by you through everything and the only one that you can truly count on to be there through thick and thin. Your sister is your greatest gift for a reason <3
