It is no easy feat to go outside every day and muster up the motivation to run. No matter how experienced a runner is it can take a lot of self-talk and encouragement just to get out the door. That is why it is important to pay attention to the details that make running great. From people who have just sparked an interest in running to elite runners, these small perks are definitely motivating.

1. You Can Eat Whatever You Want

Running burns 1,000 calories per hour for a person weighing 150 pounds which is more than most other cardio exercises. This means that runners have room for higher caloric intake, but should still try to eat nutritional food to get good fuel in their tanks.

2. You Get To Wear Fashionable Running Apparel and Shoes

Getting a fresh pair of running shoes is an exciting experience for any runner. It is also fun to buy new running tops, shorts, jackets, tights, sports bras, watches or whatever else when there are always new trendy designs of sportswear coming out.

3. It Makes You Smarter

Running increases focus which makes people less distracted and more motivated so they can become better learners. Aerobic running also stimulates the growth of brain cells to prevent cognitive decline, the onset of Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

4. Great Bonding With Running Buddies

A great way to get to know someone is to go on a run with them. People feel a connection with the ones that are experiencing the same pain or joy that they are and will open up to them more about what is on their mind.

5. You Live Longer

To reduce the chance of death from heart disease or other cardiovascular ailments just run a mile or two a day. Runners live an average of three years longer than nonrunners; not to mention the vast health benefits.

6. Reduces Stress and Anxiety

The endorphins that are released during a run act as natural painkillers that reduce the perception of pain in the brain. The medicinal effect of endorphins has short to long term effects depending on the frequency of its use.

7. Beautiful Scenery

Most people miss out on all of the nature that their city or town has to offer when they stay indoors. Running is a great way to explore the area and find new spots to hang out at.

8. Improves Your Immune System

A moderate 30 to 45 minute daily run can stimulate the immune system to ward off colds, flus and types of cancers. However, "the more intense the run, the higher the cortisol level," says Amesh A. Adalja, M.D., an infectious disease-specialist. Cortisol impairs the immune system so be sure to sleep enough, eat healthy food, and manage stress.

9. It Makes You Happier

The endorphins released in the brain can make people feel more energetic, awake, and happier. They are known as "runner's high" which can kick in during or after a run to lift the runner's mood.

10. Meditation For The Soul

Mindfulness can be practiced during a run by increasing awareness of the body's feelings and the rhythm of breathing. Accept pleasant and unpleasant sensations equally and the mind will feel clear and relaxed.

11. Boosts Confidence

Most importantly, run to feel confident. Running makes a person stronger in both body and mind. When the challenges of a run are taken on with ease, the rest of life's troubles do not seem so threatening anymore.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
