If you're reading this article, then you probably know what it's like to have a teacher for a Mom. It's somewhat of a rollercoaster ride filled with many advantages and yes, even some disadvantages. Here are just 11 out of many reasons why having a teacher for a mom is a blessing and a curse.
1. You know what it's like spending your Saturday's drowning in homework
Let's be real--having a teacher for a Mom meant no fun and games until every homework assignment of yours was completed. No TV, no friends, no phone, no fun.
2. You've spent countless hours in their classrooms helping tidy up the place
Once the beginning or the end of the school year came around, you spent countless hours in your Mom's classroom helping her clean up and move boxes and hang up or take down posters. Why spend your summer days at the pool when you can just drown in your own sweat inside of the class room right?
3. When she's stressed, you're stressed
When report cards are due or your Mom is waiting for her in class observation by the principal, that's your queue to run for the hill It's during these times that your Mom is almost unrecognizable. She is stressed and on edge which basically means you need to watch yourself. Don't talk back and offer to wash the dishes, or just avoid all contact until you're in the clear.
4. There was no avoiding the "Report Card" talk
When the time comes around for report cards, you better hope that you're grades are decent to pass Mom's inspection. Because all teachers practically submit their report cards around the same time, she knew when to expect yours. This meant, "Oh, it hasn't come in yet" or "Don't worry, I did well" would never fly.
5. Staples is practically your second home
Normal kids go to the mall with their Mom and maybe go to the food court as a treat. Lucky for us, we could walk around our local Staples blindfolded and never get lost. And our reward for taking a ride? A PACK OF POST ITS!
6. You always got at least an A on your English essays
Asking your Mom to "read over" your essay was basically her excuse to rewrite it. "Oh yeah, I'm just moving a few words around" meant the only thing that didn't change about what you wrote was your name.
7. They make the best study buddy
Although they are constantly on your back about your upcoming tests and quizzes, they do make the best study buddies. Teachers are filled with tips and tricks for test taking and know a lot of great methods to help you get that A.
8. You have a new level of respect for you own teachers
After seeing all of the handwork that your Mom puts in behind the scenes; grading tests, making up homework assignments and creating lesson plans, you see that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to teaching. You now understand all of the hours outside of the classroom that teachers spend making sure they are doing the best they can do, so you now admire and respect your own teachers for all they do.
9. They have the best sense of humor
Being a teacher, it's important that they keep their students entertained and make the learning environment a fun one to be in. With that being said, having a teacher for a Mom means you're also dealing with a part-time comedian. In attempts to keep up with "the kids these days" and their lingo, your Mom is constantly cracking jokes and saying her day was "aight" in hopes she can make you laugh like she does with her kids.
10. They understand if you fail a test
A teacher's job is to help recognize the potential of their students and to help them see and achieve everything they are capable of doing. Because of those reasons, your Mom as a teacher will understand if you fail a test or don't understand a math problem. Instead of questioning your abilities, they help you realize that making mistakes is okay and as long as you are trying your best then that's all that matters.
11. Superwoman has nothing on your Mom
Sure, Superwoman saves lives and all, but does Superwoman wake up at 5 a.m. to go to school, teach 25 kids for eight hours everyday, get back home at 5 p.m. to raise her own kids, help them with their work, make/take-out food while being the best Mom ever? Didn't think so. Moms who are teachers deserve their own Marvel movie for all of the work that they do.
So to all of the kids out there with teachers for Moms, don't forget this--
You are so extremely lucky. Sure they might constantly be on your case about doing your homework or studying for tests but remember they are only doing it because they love you and want you to achieve everything they know you are capable of. Make sure to thank them for all that they do, and to just take a breath if they snap at you during the week sometimes because being a teacher is no easy task.
