11 Reasons College Students Are Thankful This Thanksgiving

We may be unconventional, but at least we're honest.

1. The family support we've received all semester.

From phone calls to grocery money, every little bit has helped. Being home for the holidays and surrounded by those who love you the most reminds us all that we could not do it alone.

2. An actual home cooked meal.

Living off of cafeteria food and Ramen gets old real quick. Turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing from mom beats even the best caf meals.

3. The leftovers that will be going back to school with us.

Nothing is quite as exciting as opening the fridge and seeing a real meal you can throw in the microwave.

4. A break from classes and homework.

Five entire days with no labs, lectures, or group projects is a close second to a luxury vacation at this point in the semester.

5. A chance to catch up on all of the sleep we've missed this semester.

Whether it's pulling an all nighter to study for an exam, or loud neighbors who must be nocturnal, there is no such thing as a sleep schedule while away at school.

6. Having some personal space again.

As much as we all love our roommates, having a few days of not fighting over the washing machine or shower is true bliss.

7. Seeing our pets.

College campuses lack in being pet friendly, and our furry friends are at the top of our list of people to see during the holidays. Nobody is ever quite as happy to see us as they are.

8. Catching up with friends we haven't seen since summer.

The friends we make at college are some of the best, but it's always a treat to reconnect with the friends who have known you since childhood.

9. Having a chance to work and restock our bank accounts.

It's no secret that we're all broke. Being able to rack up some Black Friday hours is a blessing in disguise.

10. Being with our siblings.

As much as we hate to admit it, part of us missed fighting over the remote and telling embarrassing childhood stories.

11. Getting to be a kid again.

Being home means we get to forget about "adulting" for a few days and return to life at home. Nothing beats having mom do your laundry for you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
